Awkward MAFS Wedding: Groom’s Insensitive Joke Leaves Bride Shocked!
In the heat of excitement, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of discomfort as I watched the joyous union of Adrian Araouzou and Awhina Rutene unfold on Married At First Sight. The day was filled with laughter, tears, and a whirlwind of emotions – but a poorly-timed jest from the groom left me, and perhaps the bride, feeling slightly uneasy.
At the moment of their vows, Awhina found herself utterly captivated by her husband-to-be. She confessed that he was “simply too attractive” for her, as she had difficulty keeping her gaze locked on him.
In a surprising turn of events, they swiftly found out that they had a unique connection – they were both twins, which added an unforeseen element to their encounter.
However, even though it appeared that the conversation was heading in a positive direction, Adrian’s remark about possessing a ‘six-month-old’ caused Awhina to show clear signs of distress.
During a lighthearted exchange during his vows, Adrian jokingly mentioned, “By the way, it’s important to note that I’m not just a one-person package… I also have a six-month-old.
Caught off guard, I couldn’t help but gasp at Awhina’s sudden change in countenance. It wasn’t until Adrian explained that he was discussing his Aussie Shepherd that the puzzle pieces fell into place for me, a dog lover through and through.
Adrian’s joke didn’t sit right with Awhina, a mother of a six-year-old boy, who later disclosed that she was somewhat surprised by his remark, feeling slightly uncomfortable.
She revealed in a private moment that it made her uncomfortable when he reassured, “It’s okay, it’s okay, I don’t have a child.
Man, when I heard that bit, I couldn’t help but feel… You mentioning having a child, it didn’t even cross my mind as something to worry about, bro! If you do have one, fantastic, fantastic! Keep doing your thing, we’re with you all the way.
Initially, her excitement towards Adrian was briefly overshadowed by concerns if he was genuinely prepared for the responsibilities that come with having a family.
‘Now I’m a bit scared to have that conversation,’ she confessed.
‘Usually, I’m like, “You know what makes me more attractive? That I’m this big, beautiful mum.
‘Because that’s what I am. I’m a gorgeous mum, and I love my son,’ she continued.
Regardless of her hesitations, Awhina stood firm on her decision to share honestly about her role as a mother, aware that it could potentially alter Adrian’s view of her.

‘As much as I’m scared now, no, I’m going to have that conversation.’
It wasn’t long before social media lit up with comments about the cringeworthy moment.
Married At First Sight continues Thursday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine
