Award-winning Stranger Things play The First Shadow coming to the US in 2025
As a die-hard Stranger Things fan who grew up in the 80s and can still recall the excitement of discovering new adventures with my trusty bike and walkie-talkie, the announcement of The First Shadow has me absolutely thrilled!
As a longtime fan of “Stranger Things,” I am beyond excited about the upcoming prequel series, “The First Shadow.” Given my love for the original show and its intricate plotlines, I have high expectations for this new addition to the franchise. The fact that it’s being developed by Matt and Ross Duffer, who have done an exceptional job with the storytelling in the first four seasons, along with Kate Trefry and Jack Thorne, makes me confident that this prequel will be just as captivating and engaging. I can hardly wait to see how they delve deeper into the mysteries of Hawkins and the Upside Down world, and I’m eagerly anticipating the fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” while also looking forward to exploring the events that led up to it in “The First Shadow.”
The narrative unfolds in Hawkins, Indiana during 1959, prior to significant upheaval. It revolves around a young police officer named Jim Hopper, alongside well-known characters such as Bob Newby, Joyce Maldonado, and even a youthful Henry Creel. This play principally delves into the mysteries surrounding Henry’s past, while simultaneously offering insights into beloved figures like Hopper, Bob, and Joyce.
When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy…and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.
The play is helmed by Stephen Daldry, known for “The Crown,” “The Hours,” and “The Reader,” along with co-director Justin Martin, who’s worked on “Prima Facie” and “The Inheritance.” It has garnered praise from critics, particularly for its remarkable special effects and performances.
As a game enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement as The First Shadow is set to take center stage at Broadway’s Marquis Theatre in the heart of New York City, beginning on a Friday, March 28, 2025. The official opening day, which I’ve marked on my calendar, falls on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Can’t wait to immerse myself in this theatrical adventure!
