Avowed 2.0 is live with New Game Plus, Photo Mode, and new playable races

Obsidian Entertainment has just released a major update for Avowed, called patch 2.0, to celebrate its one-year anniversary. This update greatly improves how you create your character and adds more reasons to play the game again. It’s available now on all platforms and coincides with the game’s release on PlayStation 5.

The major new addition is New Game+. Once you complete the story, you can start a fresh playthrough with all the abilities, attribute points, and special equipment you’ve already earned. While powerful abilities still need to be unlocked through gameplay, you won’t have to start completely from scratch.

Your special weapons and armor will still be there when you start a new game, but they’ll be back at level 1. Any enchantments you’ve unlocked will still be usable. You’ll need to find and recruit your companions again as you play through the story, but they’ll keep the skills they learned and also start at level 1.

Obsidian designed New Game Plus to be more challenging. Enemies are stronger, and can appear with special abilities like elemental or physical attacks. Players can also increase their stats beyond the original limit of 15, up to 30, to handle these tougher encounters.

This update has a key requirement for New Game Plus: you’ll need to start a new save file after installing version 2.0 and finish the game again. Simply loading an older save won’t work.

The game is getting a significant update to character creation. You can now play as any of the five Eoran races – Humans, Elves, Aumaua, Dwarves, and Orlans. Each race now has unique stat bonuses, and choosing a background also gives your character an extra stat boost, offering more ways to customize your character. Plus, if you’re already playing, you can use a new Magic Mirror in the Party Camp to change your character’s appearance – even their species – whenever you like.

You can now access Photo Mode directly from the pause menu, giving you full control over the camera, plus filters and editing tools to perfect your shots.

The game Avowed first launched on February 18, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S and Windows. Now, a year later, it’s also available on PlayStation 5, and includes all the improvements from version 2.0.
