Avengers: Secret Wars will change the MCU exactly how Marvel fans hoped

Kevin Feige, head honcho at Marvel Studios, shares insights on how the upcoming film “Avengers: Secret Wars” will reshape the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future.

Over the next several years, we can expect a major two-part collaboration featuring “Doomsday” followed by “Secret Wars”. However, one may wonder, what lies beyond these epic events?

In an open chat with Variety, Feige characterized the period following Secret Wars as a refreshing “restart” for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he emphasized that it’s not a “redo”.

What to Read Next

Feige finds the term ‘reboot’ quite daunting. To many, it could represent various concepts. We’re considering ideas such as restart or a single timeline when using this term.

He also confirmed what many fans were expecting, explaining: “X-Men is where that will happen next.

This space serves as a platform for narrating tales about those who feel unique, outcast, or misfitted – a narrative that resonates universally with mutants. That’s our direction.

In recent times, several characters from the Fox X-Men movie series have been appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and there are even more set for the upcoming Avengers. However, a planned “reboot” or “refresh” could lead to these X-Men characters, along with potentially numerous other Marvel superheroes, being portrayed by new actors.

According to Feige, Amy Pascal and David Heyman are currently on the lookout for a fresh James Bond. He also mentioned that David Corenswet, the latest Superman, was simply amazing and will always remain so.

He went on to say: “It seems almost impossible for anyone else to take on such a role after Sean Connery gave such an exceptional performance. Who could possibly fill his shoes?

Feige added: “Secret Wars is about beginnings.”

Yet, it’s possible that Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, and Wolverine, portrayed by Hugh Jackman, could be the only characters who are not part of the recasting plan.

Feige expressed his belief that there’s room for even more enjoyable interactions between the two characters, though he’s unsure of the specific direction at this point.

In May, it was announced that the original release dates for “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars” were being delayed. The reason given was to provide additional time for production, as both films are said to be among the largest ever produced.

The film “Avengers: Doomsday” is scheduled to be released in December 2026. A year after that, the movie “Secret Wars” will also premiere in cinemas.
