Avengers: Secret Wars’ Reported Focus Will Surprise MCU Fans After Doomsday

Sources say the next big Marvel crossover, Avengers: Secret Wars, will be similar to Avengers: Doomsday by significantly changing the direction of the storyline.

So far, the Avengers movies have mainly centered around the original six members – Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. Hawkeye was the only one who didn’t appear in the 2018 film, Infinity War. Although Infinity War and Endgame introduced many new heroes and broadened the definition of who could be called an Avenger, the original six remained at the heart of those stories.

Things are about to shift with the new movie, “Doomsday.” Only Thor and Captain America (Steve Rogers) from the original Avengers team will be in it, and they won’t be central to the main plot. Instead, they’ll be on a separate mission to locate Loki.

The biggest threats in Doomsday will come from characters featured in Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four: First Steps, along with Robert Downey Jr.’s version of Doctor Doom. The X-Men from 20th Century Fox will also be heavily involved in the next Avengers movie.

How will Avengers: Secret Wars be different than Doomsday?

The upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars movie seems to be shifting the spotlight away from familiar heroes. According to insider Daniel Richtman, the film will center on characters who weren’t central to the recent ‘Doomsday’ storyline, suggesting that teams like the Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and X-Men will have smaller parts in the 2027 movie.

Those following Avengers news likely already know this: reports suggest Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will take center stage in Secret Wars. While they’re currently only expected to appear briefly at the beginning of Doomsday, they’re predicted to be key players in the larger Secret Wars storyline.

Shang-Chi, Peggy Carter, and Shuri are expected to join the team of heroes battling Doctor Doom. It’s currently unknown why Marvel isn’t initially focusing on bigger-name heroes like Captain America (Sam Wilson) and Captain Marvel, but that will probably be revealed when the movie comes out on December 18, 2026.

The highly anticipated movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, which will conclude the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga, is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 17, 2027.
