During an interview with The River (originally in Japanese (later translated into English)), Liu expressed that working alongside Marvel veterans was like living a dream. He confessed to feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension while on set.
As a self-proclaimed film enthusiast, let me tell you, working alongside actors I’ve idolized since my youth is nothing short of mind-blowing! It’s as if I’m living in a perpetual dream. Each day at work feels like a magical journey, as I get to collaborate with individuals I truly respect and admire.
The actor expressed his heartfelt appreciation for Robert Downey Jr., who is reprising his role as Doctor Doom within the Marvel universe following a long-standing tenure as Iron Man. He lauded Downey Jr.’s graciousness and kindness towards fellow actors, adding that despite his illustrious career spanning numerous films, he remains accessible and motivational. Liu remarked, “Robert Downey Jr. truly inspires me. Throughout his significant contributions to Marvel’s triumphs across various productions over the years, he consistently takes time to engage and connect with countless individuals.
In a similar vein, Liu forecasted that spectators would be astonished by Downey Jr.’s portrayal in Avengers: Doomsday. He stated, “Given his versatile acting background, I believe everyone will be amazed by how he embodies this new character, Doctor Doom, in this movie.” His statements imply a strong possibility that Shang-Chi and Doom might appear together in the upcoming film crossover.
Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are the directors of the upcoming Marvel film titled “Avengers: Doomsday.” This movie brings together a vast array of superheroes and villains from the Marvel universe, including some familiar X-Men characters. The release date for this film is set for December 18, 2026. In a separate project, Liu can be seen in his new film “Last Breath,” which premieres in Japan on September 26, 2025.
