The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie is planned to include Spider-Man, but it won’t be the version played by Tom Holland. While the film will bring together heroes like the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, and is already confirmed to feature Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, many fans are disappointed that Holland’s Spider-Man won’t be part of it. Although Holland is scheduled to star in his own movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, in July 2026 (before Avengers: Doomsday is released), Spider-Man has been a key character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the Infinity Saga, making his absence noticeable.
There’s been talk that Holland’s potential return as Spider-Man is being kept under wraps because of the complicated storyline in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, the ending of No Way Home – where a spell made everyone forget Peter Parker – already explains why he wouldn’t be involved in the first fight against Doctor Doom. Despite this, a recent report suggests that at least one version of Spider-Man will appear in the Doomsday movie.
According to entertainment reporter Daniel Richtman, Tobey Maguire is set to reprise his role as Spider-Man in the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. After returning to his own universe at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, this would be his second appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In September 2025, a fan noticed actor Maguire in London – the same city where the movie Doomsday was filmed – leading to rumors he might have already shot scenes for a Marvel Cinematic Universe project. Production on Doomsday had just finished that month.
Following a previous statement on October 9, 2025, where Richtman confirmed Tom Holland wouldn’t be in Avengers: Doomsday, reports now indicate he’s expected to have a major role in Avengers: Secret Wars, which is set to come out in December 2027.
Tom Holland might still make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, particularly now that reshoots are scheduled for Spring 2026.
The idea of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man teaming up with other heroes in Doomsday against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom is really exciting. Considering how important Maguire’s Spider-Man is, he might have a bigger role than just a quick appearance, potentially becoming a key part of the team’s strategy to defeat Doom.
The upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, directed by the Russo Brothers, boasts a fantastic cast including Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Simu Liu, Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Robert Downey Jr. It’s scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
How Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man Fits in Avengers: Doomsday’s Story (Theory)

With Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man returning to his own universe in Spider-Man: No Way Home, there needs to be a strong reason for him to join the final battle of the Multiverse Saga in Avengers: Doomsday. It’s likely that either God Loki or the Time Variance Authority (TVA) will be the ones who bring him in to help.
Doctor Doom’s dangerous plans for the Multiverse might be destroying the universe where Peter Parker (played by Tobey Maguire) lives. This could explain why Peter would be willing to fight alongside others – he has a very personal reason to stop Doom and save his world.
It would be incredible to see Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man team up with characters like Pedro Pascal’s Mr. Fantastic, James Marsden’s Cyclops, and Patrick Stewart’s Professor X – it almost seems too good to be true! His appearance could also provide a logical reason for why Tom Holland’s Spider-Man isn’t involved, as he’d naturally question why the Spider-Man from the main Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t with the team.
Although there’s a possibility Harry Osborn (Maguire’s character) might die in Doomsday, he could also survive. His reunion with Peter Parker (Holland) and Spider-Man (Garfield) in Avengers: Secret Wars would likely be a huge attraction for moviegoers, making his continued presence beneficial.
