With Robert Downey Jr. returning as Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars films, a huge threat has emerged. Defeating Thanos in the Infinity Saga took all six Infinity Stones and Iron Man’s sacrifice. Now, facing a Doctor Doom who might be even more powerful due to his mastery of both magic and technology, only a handful of heroes stand a chance of winning.
Many fans believe the Doomsday storyline will conclude like Infinity War, with Doctor Doom winning and becoming even more powerful, setting up the events of Secret Wars. The most popular idea is that Doom will take control of the Multiverse from Loki – who is currently the only one keeping it stable – and use the remains of destroyed realities, after massive dimensional collisions called Incursions, to build a new world called Battleworld.

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve been following the buzz around Secret Wars, and if the latest theories are correct, it’s going to be epic! Basically, if things go south, the remaining heroes will have to team up on this place called Battleworld to take down Doctor Doom and try to fix the Multiverse – all supposedly happening in December 2027. But here’s the kicker: right now, it looks like only three heroes have a real shot at actually beating Doom for good.
3 MCU Heroes Most Likely to Defeat RDJ’s Doctor Doom
Reed Richards

The ongoing conflict between Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) and Doctor Doom is a major part of Marvel Comics history, notably featured in the 2015 storyline Secret Wars. This makes Pedro Pascal, who plays Mr. Fantastic, a natural choice to be the one to stop Doom.
As many fans know, the storyline Secret Wars involves Doctor Doom using the immense power of the Beyonders – with assistance from Molecule Man – to construct Battleworld. During the climactic battle, Doom admits that Reed Richards (of the Fantastic Four) would have wielded this ultimate power more effectively, and ultimately transfers it to him, allowing Richards to rebuild the entire Multiverse.
Even if Doctor Doom finally acknowledging defeat to Reed Richards wouldn’t feel as powerful in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – since they haven’t met on screen yet and will first appear together in Doomsday – they could still have a significant history established through events on Earth-828. Two Avengers movies could be enough to build that background, making Doom’s confession meaningful and providing a satisfying conclusion to their rivalry.
Steve Rogers

Marvel is bringing Chris Evans back as Steve Rogers for the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, continuing the story from his satisfying conclusion in Endgame. The film will heavily feature Doctor Doom, and a major motivation for the villain is a deep-seated hatred of Rogers, stemming from the belief that Rogers’ time travel caused the deaths of Doom’s family.
Similar to Captain America: Civil War, the upcoming Avengers movies appear to be creating conflict between Chris Evans’ and Robert Downey Jr.’s characters. While some fans might have preferred a showdown between Doctor Doom and Reed Richards, this development positions Captain America as a likely opponent for Downey Jr.’s character.
This could be a chance for Steve Rogers to finally face the repercussions of his choices, even potentially making the ultimate sacrifice like Iron Man did in Endgame. However, bringing him back from retirement after seven years just to fight a major villain and possibly die could feel like an unsatisfying and easy plot device.
Loki

Over the past 15 years, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has undergone one of the most compelling transformations in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His Disney+ series was key to the Multiverse Saga, not only giving the character a chance at redemption but also launching the concept of the multiverse itself and ultimately establishing Loki as a powerful, almost god-like figure who shapes the fate of realities.
As a longtime follower of the MCU, I’m really intrigued by the potential direction they’re taking with Avengers 5. Remember Doctor Doom in Secret Wars back in 2015? He basically stole the power to build this whole reality, Battleworld, from these beings called the Beyonders. Now, word is the new big bad in Avengers 5 will have a similar role – shaping reality itself. And here’s where it gets interesting: if Loki ends up being the source of Doom’s powers, it could set up an amazing showdown. Honestly, it feels like a natural and satisfying conclusion to Loki’s arc in the MCU if he’s the one to finally take down Doom.
By the end of the Multiverse Saga, Tom Hiddleston will have played Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for more than 16 years – a fitting length considering Loki’s knack for survival. A heroic sacrifice to defeat Doom would be a perfect end to his character arc, completing his journey from villain to hero and bringing the MCU back to its roots, as Loki was the first major enemy faced by the Avengers in 2012.
