The Marvel Cinematic Universe keeps growing with new movies and shows on Disney+. One of the most eagerly awaited films is Avengers: Doomsday, directed by The Russo Brothers. There’s a lot of talk about it, including reports that Chris Evans will reprise his role as Captain America. However, I’m not entirely sure how I feel about Steve Rogers potentially returning.
Details about Avengers: Doomsday are scarce, leading fans to speculate online. Although Chris Evans wasn’t initially listed in the cast, insider Daniel Richtman suggests Steve Rogers will return, and could even be the main character of the film.
Look, as much as I loved seeing Sam Wilson take on the Captain America mantle, the idea of Steve Rogers being front and center in the next Avengers movie feels a little off to me. I mean, he finally got his happy ending in Endgame, and even that fun Deadpool & Wolverine cameo felt right as a little nod. While a variant showing up could have been amazing, making him the lead in Doomsday just doesn’t quite sit right with me. It feels like it overshadows the new heroes and story they’re building.
