The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is shaping up to be a massive project for Marvel Studios. They’re bringing together a huge cast of characters, and they’re also working to lay the groundwork for the next film, Avengers: Secret Wars.
Since its beginning, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has always had a loose definition of who counts as an Avenger – basically, anyone who fought with Iron Man, Captain America, and their team. But things are changing now, and the rules are getting stricter. Even longtime allies like Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes are disagreeing about who has the right to call themselves an Avenger.
Get ready for a new generation of heroes! A third Avengers team – the Young Avengers – is stepping up, and they’re expected to play a big part in the upcoming Doomsday event. According to Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus, they’ll be assisting the established heroes and could even help them navigate the complexities of the multiverse, similar to how Ant-Man guided the Avengers in Avengers: Endgame.
It’s a smart move to include the Young Avengers, especially since Kamala Khan was already forming a team at the end of The Marvels by asking Kate Bishop to join. However, getting enough screen time will be a challenge for this new team, as they’ll be competing with many established and popular characters.
Every Superhero Team Set To Appear in Avengers: Doomsday
Thunderbolts

Going into Thunderbolts, few people expected much from Yelena Belova’s team. But they surprised everyone, stepping up to save the world from a powerful, dark threat. Their risky methods ultimately succeeded, and the Thunderbolts concluded their first mission by essentially becoming the new Avengers.
Being known as Earth-616’s main heroes will give the New Avengers an advantage when the fighting begins in Doomsday. Whether they can maintain their position as the strongest team is still uncertain, but with Sentry on their side, they have a significant boost.
Avengers

Beyond facing criticism from the public, the New Avengers’ biggest challenge comes from Sam Wilson, who is currently Captain America. He’s planning to create his own team, and as shown in the post-credits scene of Thunderbolts, assembling it won’t be easy. Still, Sam is determined to move forward in Doomsday and work with his new teammates.
At a presentation in Italy in December 2025, Disney revealed that the character Sam will team up with Thor, Ant-Man, Shang-Chi, Falcon, and Loki. This is exciting news, especially considering Loki’s redemption arc in his Disney+ show. It’s a remarkably powerful group of heroes for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Fantastic 4

The Fantastic Four make a solid Doomsday team because they’ve already worked out their internal dynamics, as shown in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Everyone understands their role, and Johnny Storm, in particular, has proven he’s more capable than people might think. He and the rest of the team are expected to be highly motivated when they return to the big screen.
The post-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps showed Doctor Doom pursuing Franklin Richards. Although it wasn’t clear what Doom wants, his generally evil plans are enough to make him an enemy of the Fantastic Four.
Wakandans

The latest trailer for Doomsday featured a brief encounter between the Fantastic Four’s Ben Grimm and Wakanda’s King M’Baku – they only exchanged greetings. But Grimm will quickly see that partnering with Wakanda would be a good idea. The nation is incredibly advanced technologically and is also home to the hero Black Panther.
Shuri is still dealing with the painful events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Luckily, joining the fight to save the multiverse will give her a much-needed purpose and allow her to develop as a hero.
X-Men

Up until now, all the teams mentioned have been from the main Marvel universe (Earth-616). However, the X-Men are different – they come from a parallel universe where mutants are the most powerful superheroes. The latest preview for Doomsday shows that Magneto and Professor X are working together, making the X-Men a particularly difficult opponent for Doom.
The more experienced team members won’t be solely responsible for everything. Cyclops is prepared to lead the X-Men in combat, supported by Beast, Nightcrawler, Mystique, and Gambit.
Doctor Doom

Facing six teams of heroes, Doomsday’s opponent has a tough challenge ahead. Luckily, he’s incredibly intelligent and highly skilled. He’ll likely be able to handle things on his own once he starts, but he might still receive some assistance.
Across the vast multiverse, many villains likely support Doom and wouldn’t want to be erased from existence. Any of these characters could potentially help Robert Downey Jr.’s character when the moment arrives.
