Avengers: Doomsday Photos Unveil Major Redesigns for 6 Main Heroes

Okay, so I’m a huge Marvel fan and I’ve been seeing some leaked images from the set of Avengers: Doomsday, and it looks like they’ve given a lot of the heroes completely new costumes! It’s exciting because this movie is bringing together so many characters – not just the usual Avengers, but the original X-Men team and the Thunderbolts too. Apparently, filming finished last September, though they’re doing some extra shooting soon. The crew gifts included artwork showing off these costume changes, and honestly, they’re a pretty big deal!

Even before Marvel Studios releases a trailer, promotional images for the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday have appeared online. One image shows a poster-like design with many of the film’s main characters.

The recent leak happened as excitement grows for the next Marvel movie directed by the Russo brothers. Actor Lewis Pullman, who plays Sentry, hinted the film won’t just be a series of quick cameos. He said each character will have an important role, similar to how the directors successfully balanced a large cast in Infinity War and Endgame.

Recently revealed artwork gives us our first good look at returning characters – both heroes and villains, including familiar faces from the X-Men and Doctor Doom as played by Robert Downey Jr. The artwork also shows updated designs for some characters whose costumes have become popular with Marvel Cinematic Universe fans.

Major MCU Redesigns in Avengers 5

Cyclops

James Marsden will reprise his role as Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday, and his character will feature a significant new look. A previous trailer hinting at the return of the X-Men showed Marsden’s Scott Summers using a powerful optic blast, giving fans their first glimpse of this redesign.

His new visor is silver with a reddish lens, similar to the glasses he wore in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Previous movies, like the first X-Men and X2, featured visors that wrapped around his head, staying closer to the comic book look. More recent films have used red sunglasses instead.

The updated design seems to combine elements from past versions, resulting in a look for Cyclops that’s more closely based on the comics, much like the style of X-Men ’97.

Mystique

Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique will have a noticeably different look in Avengers: Doomsday. Unlike the blue body paint and simple outfit she wore in the original X-Men movies, she’ll now be seen in a white and blue costume featuring a striking diamond shape on her chest.

Shang-Chi

Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi will be back in a new costume in the upcoming film, Doomsday. Although initial looks at promotional images suggest only minor changes, Liu revealed in an interview that the suit is actually “completely different” from the one he wore in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The actor said the new costume feels quite different and he had to get used to it when he started filming. This change in appearance probably shows how Shang-Chi’s role is growing within the Avengers, potentially working with Captain America, played by Anthony Mackie.

Magneto

I’m really excited to hear that Ian McKellen’s Magneto is getting a costume that’s much closer to how he looks in the comics for Avengers: Doomsday! It sounds like they’re really leaning into the source material, which as a fan, I totally appreciate.

The product features artwork of the iconic mutant character with his classic red and purple helmet. This bright color combination is a change from the darker, leather and armored looks used in the earlier movies.

In the recently released footage from the X-Men’s Doomsday, Magneto sports a new look with noticeably longer hair, reaching down to his shoulders.

Namor

In the upcoming movie Doomsday, Namor (played by Tenoch Huerta) will have a striking new look. Leaked photos reveal the ruler of Talokan wearing a black armored vest with gold detailing and a unique, stand-up collar.

The costume, briefly seen in the preview for Doomsday leading up to Avatar: Fire and Ash, clearly takes inspiration from a classic Namor look from the comics, but keeps the Mesoamerican style first established in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Loki

Tom Hiddleston, who has played Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years, seems to be sporting a more classic Loki style for his next appearance in an Avengers film.

The second season of Loki concluded with the character becoming the God of Stories, sporting large, dark green horns as he settled into his role at the end of time. But newly released images show Loki with his original, familiar gold horns – the ones fans remember from his first appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A simple reason for the crown change might be comfort and practicality on set. The larger crown was likely cumbersome to wear for extended filming, while the smaller gold crown was easier to manage and didn’t need digital effects to look good.
