Avengers: Doomsday Officially Breaks A Super Bowl Tradition That Goes Back To 2012

After Super Bowl LVI, Marvel broke a tradition it had followed with Avengers movies since 2012. The studio had always used the Super Bowl to debut a new trailer for an upcoming Avengers film, but this year, they decided not to release a teaser for Avengers: Doomsday.

The new Marvel sequel, highly awaited by fans, arrives in December and features many familiar faces, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and James Marsden. Titled Doomsday, the film will conclude the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga, roughly seven and a half years after the last Avengers movie.

Even though a new Avengers movie hasn’t come out since 2019’s Endgame, Marvel Studios has continued to promote its films during the Super Bowl, which draws a huge audience. Last year, they released a trailer for Thunderbolts, and the year before that, Deadpool & Wolverine got a promotional spot.

Although Doomsday didn’t have a trailer during the Super Bowl – where the Seattle Seahawks won – several trailers have been released, showcasing characters like Steve Rogers, Thor, the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Black Panther. We also haven’t seen any previews for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but it’s expected to come out before Doomsday.

Interestingly, DC Studios, the main competitor to Marvel in superhero movies and TV shows, didn’t advertise during the Super Bowl this year either. Instead, they released the first trailer for their new Supergirl movie during Animal Planet’s popular Puppy Bowl. DC used a similar strategy last year to promote Superman.

Marvel usually shows trailers for its movies during a certain event, but they probably skipped it for Doomsday because they were already heavily promoting the film in a different way. As for Brand New Day, we don’t know when the first preview will be released, but with the movie coming out in about five months, it should be coming soon.

The new Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day, is scheduled to come out on July 31, 2026, and Avengers: Doomsday will follow on December 18, 2026.
