Avengers: Doomsday Leak: Hero Turns EVIL?! You Won’t Believe Who!
The upcoming film titled “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to introduce a multitude of characters from various corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Interestingly, the comics suggest that one of the movie’s protagonists could switch allegiances and align with Doctor Doom. The announcement of the cast for “Avengers: Doomsday” left me astounded due to the vast array of teams participating in this conflict. Although I wasn’t anticipating it to resemble the first two MCU Avengers films, which primarily centered around the main team, I did think that the “Secret Wars” project would be the one to go all-out.
Apart from establishing a new Avengers team within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), “Doomsday” is also going to feature numerous superhero groups, such as Fox’s original X-Men, the new Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts, and more. In the storyline of “Avengers: Doomsday,” it seems that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will be portrayed as one of the MCU’s most formidable and intelligent characters. However, I find it hard to imagine that he could single-handedly defeat all those superhero teams. Therefore, some beloved heroes might team up with Victor von Doom, and I have an idea about which hero should join him.
Marvel Comics Set Up A Possible Avengers: Doomsday Betrayal
The Comics’ Secret Wars Lays Out A Plan For One Hero
In my opinion, Namor is likely to team up with Doctor Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday”. Initially, it didn’t cross my mind that Namor would be involved in “Avengers: Doomsday”. Given the characters we thought would appear or seemed fitting for the movie, I hadn’t given a second thought about Namor’s potential role in future Avengers films. However, when Tenoch Huerta was revealed as part of the cast for “Avengers: Doomsday”, it came as an exciting surprise to me. Later, I recalled Namor’s part in the comics’ “Secret Wars”.
In the movie “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” we’re introduced to the Earth-838 version of the Illuminati, which is the first time this team has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the Marvel Comics, Namor was initially part of the Illuminati, a group that started destroying other worlds during Secret Wars to protect their own. However, the other members eventually realized what they were doing was wrong. Namor then broke away, forming a new, darker group known as the Cabal, which included villainous characters like Thanos, with the aim of stopping incursions by destroying other worlds.
Why Namor Is Perfect For Doctor Doom’s MCU Team
Marvel Studios Has Already Put The Character In A Villain Position
It’s more plausible for Namor, given his comic book history and character traits displayed in the MCU, to side with Doctor Doom against the heroes than Doctor Strange. In the comics, Namor has always been protective of his people and kingdom. If the multiverse encounters threats that could potentially destroy Atlantis, Namor wouldn’t hesitate to act swiftly. Since Namor is a destructive force himself, it aligns with his character to engage in actions that could lead to world destruction.
In light of Doctor Doom facing off against numerous superhero teams in an upcoming film titled “Avengers: Doomsday,” it seems fitting that he assembles a team similar to the Cabal, which was created by Namor in the comics. This is because we’ve seen Namor, who indirectly caused Queen Ramonda’s death in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and has ties to a malevolent comic book team that will significantly affect “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2027, is one of the darkest characters announced so far. Given these factors and Namor’s complexity, I speculate he might switch allegiances.
I’m Convinced The MCU Already Opened The Door For Namor’s Betrayal
The Submariner’s Actions In His MCU Debut Could Easily Lead To Him Joining Doctor Doom
In “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Namor made his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film successfully portrayed him as a multifaceted adversary, albeit one who played the role of villain effectively. Given Marvel’s history with the character, it seems likely they will continue to delve into his complex nature. One of the key aspects showcased in “Wakanda Forever” was Namor’s unwavering loyalty to his nation, which he was willing to defend by any means necessary, even if that meant going to war with those who dwell on land.
In the finale of “Wakanda Forever,” Namor and Shuri established a truce, leading their nations to form an alliance. This is why I think it would be intriguing for Namor to ally with Doctor Doom. After his initial portrayal as a villain, it wouldn’t be likely for the character to revert so swiftly. The betrayal of Namor, given that Shuri will feature in “Avengers: Doomsday,” would add an emotional dimension to such a move. Moreover, Namor has longed for a conflict with surface dwellers, and Doctor Doom’s multiverse battle in “Avengers: Doomsday” could provide the perfect opportunity for this confrontation.
