Avengers: Doomsday Is Set To Redeem A Bad MCU Movie, According To New Rumor

The new Avengers: Doomsday movie could fix some of the problems with recent Marvel films, particularly those from Phase 5. It’s expected to be the epic conclusion to the Multiverse Saga, wrapping up storylines and resolving unanswered questions from previous movies. A major focus will be on what happens to Monica Rambeau after the cliffhanger ending of The Marvels, where she became trapped in the universe of the X-Men.

Although several main X-Men characters are confirmed for the upcoming Doomsday movie, Teyonah Parris—who plays Monica—wasn’t mentioned in Marvel’s official announcement. This could mean Monica won’t be in the film, or Marvel is simply keeping her appearance a surprise. However, previous reports suggested Monica will have a particularly important role in Avengers: Doomsday, playing a key part in the story.

A TikTok video posted by @blumbyteynoah on August 26, 2025, seems to support the rumor that Teyonah Parris was filming for a while. The video’s caption mentioned she’d been away from home for months, which could mean she was involved in the production of Avengers: Doomsday – filming for which finished in September 2025.

Considering the latest reports and clues, it’s likely that the next Avengers movie will pick up Monica Rambeau’s storyline from The Marvels. This could mean the film will follow a similar pattern to Avengers: Endgame, revisiting events from a previous movie – in this case, potentially Thor: The Dark World – as part of its plot.

By referencing events in Thor: The Dark World, Endgame gave that earlier, often criticized film a new significance and almost made up for its weaknesses. Many consider The Dark World to be one of the weakest entries in the Infinity Saga, and Endgame helped to give it a purpose within the larger narrative.

It appears the movie Doomsday is following a similar path as The Marvels. Despite initially receiving very negative audience feedback, Doomsday might be redeemed through its connection to the plot, potentially encouraging people to revisit and re-evaluate the film.

Kelsey Grammer, known for playing Beast, will be in Doomsday, so it’s likely Parris—who appeared with him in a scene after the credits of The Marvels—will also be in the next movie, scheduled for 2026.

Brie Larson, known for her role as Captain Marvel, recently shared a photo on Instagram of herself voting in New York City. She jokingly wrote, “ignore the wig!” This post has sparked rumors that filming for a new Captain Marvel movie, or reshoots for an existing one, might already be happening, hinting at a return for her character, Carol Danvers.

The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, directed by the Russo Brothers, will bring together Earth’s greatest heroes – the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men – to battle Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. It’s scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18, 2026.

Why Avengers: Doomsday Can Still Save The Marvels

If the recent buzz and clues are correct, the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday could significantly help The Marvels and make it a must-see film. Although The Marvels didn’t perform as well as hoped at the box office and received mixed reviews, Monica Rambeau’s key part in Doomsday likely connects to the dangerous dimensional event – an incursion – that she, Captain Marvel, and Ms. Marvel initially caused.

Monica never should have been part of the X-Men world, and it’s a big problem. Watching The Marvels will explain how she ended up there in the first place.

Perhaps the surprisingly negative reaction to one of the recent Marvel movies is actually connected to the events leading up to the Avengers assembling. Captain Marvel might have asked for a favor, turning the situation into a rescue operation to bring Monica Rambeau back home. Plus, Monica simply being in another universe could trigger dangerous dimensional breaches.

Similar to how Endgame reshaped our understanding of previous Marvel films, Doomsday could do the same for The Marvels. It has the potential to make The Marvels feel vital and important, and even help correct some of the issues with the larger Multiverse Saga by positioning the film as a key piece of the overall story.
