Avengers 5 and 6 get exciting update with surprising return

As a hardcore gamer and long-time Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fan, I’m thrilled to hear that the Russo brothers are reportedly in talks with Marvel Studios to return for Avengers 5 and 6. Their impact on the MCU during Phases Two and Three was undeniable, having directed some of the most successful films like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, as well as Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War.

Based on reports from The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaking team is reportedly in talks for a surprise return to the spotlight, having played significant roles during Phases Two and Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As an avid fan, I’ve been keeping up with the latest Marvel Studios news, and I’m excited to share that they have been on the hunt for a new director for the upcoming Avengers film since last year. Destin Daniel Cretton, who was set to direct “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” had to step down from the project.

I’ve heard that at some point, the Marvel bosses were rumored to think about hiring Shawn Levy, who directed “Deadpool” and “Wolverine,” instead of the Russo brothers for a project. However, they ultimately changed their minds and stuck with the Russo brothers in the end.

After the massive success of “Avengers: Endgame,” the Russo brothers, Anthony and Joe, announced their departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Prior to this, they had directed three Avengers films – the third and fourth installments, as well as “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Captain America: Civil War.”

Over the past five years and more, following the release of Endgame, the Russos have achieved notable success with the Netflix films in the Extraction series. Upcoming for them is a science fiction project titled The Electric State, featuring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt as stars.

The Russos, who took a break from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), have frequently expressed in interviews that a film based on “Secret Wars” could entice them to return to Marvel.

In an interview with BroBible back in 2020, Joe shared his experience of reading “Secret Wars” around the age of 10 or 11. This comic book stood out for him because it brought together a vast number of superhero characters for the first time on such a grand scale. It represented a new level of event storytelling that left a lasting impression on him. The intrigue lies in observing how these distinct personalities interact when placed in the same situation.

We share the same enthusiasm for the concept of villains joining forces with heroes. The intricate dynamics between heroes and villains, as well as villains who view themselves as heroes in their own narratives, are elements we appreciate. This notion is deeply rooted in the ambitious scope of “Secret Wars.” The realization of something as grand as “Infinity War” was a direct reflection of this larger-than-life dream embodied by “Secret Wars.”

The title of the sixth Avengers film was originally going to be “Secret Wars,” but that may no longer be the case since the subtitle for Avengers 5, which was planned to be “Kang Dynasty,” has been dropped following Jonathan Majors’ departure from the role as Kang.

Should Marvel choose “Secret Wars” as their sixth film, they will be bringing to life a 1984 comic book tale. In this narrative, a powerful cosmic entity named The Beyonder transports an assortment of heroes and villains to a battlefield called Battleworld. Their objective: engage in a lethal confrontation.

All four Avengers movies are streaming on Disney+. The fifth movie will release on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers 6 on May 7, 2027.
