Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Avatar: Fire & Ash
Sigourney Weaver’s character, Kiri, has always been different and intriguing within the world of Avatar, from the unusual circumstances of her birth to her strong bond with Eywa. The new film, Avatar: Fire & Ash, reveals some surprising details about where she came from.
Avatar: Fire & Ash reveals that Kiri isn’t simply spiritually connected – she’s fundamentally different. Because of her unusual birth and deep link to Pandora, Kiri embodies a completely new type of Na’vi, and this movie explores that role much more fully than the previous Avatar films did.
Avatar: Fire & Ash Confirms A Major Kiri Theory (She’s A Clone)
![]()
The film Fire & Ash confirms that Kiri is a genetic clone of Grace Augustine, the character played by Sigourney Weaver. This means Kiri shares the exact same DNA as Grace. The film also reveals that Kiri doesn’t have a biological father, resolving a question she wrestled with in The Way of Water (2023).
Kiri, the daughter of Jake Sully and Neytiri, was born in a unique way: she was created through parthenogenesis. This means Grace’s avatar became pregnant without needing fertilization, making Kiri a complete genetic replica, not a child conceived in the usual manner.
This happened in the first Avatar film when the Na’vi tried to save Grace by moving her mind from her failing human body into her avatar. While connected to the Tree of Souls, Kiri learns that Eywa unexpectedly planted a seed inside Grace’s avatar, which led to Kiri being born – something that had never happened before.
Okay, so Kiri isn’t exactly a way to bring Grace Augustine back, even though Sigourney Weaver plays her again. It’s more like Eywa, the planet’s consciousness, created a kind of daughter – Kiri even calls Grace ‘mom’ when she’s connected spiritually, which is pretty amazing.
Considering her extraordinary abilities, particularly as demonstrated in both The Way of Water and Fire & Ash, it’s clear Kiri was born with a special purpose.
Kiri Is A “Chosen One“, Her Unique Connection To Eywa Explained

Kiri’s unusual birth – as a clone – likely accounts for her incredibly strong connection to Eywa. Her bond with Eywa is stronger than any other spiritual leader, even experienced tsahìks like Mo’at of the Omatikaya clan and Ronal of the Metkayina clan.
Kiri has a uniquely powerful and natural connection to Eywa and Pandora, often acting on instinct without fully understanding how. We see this when she instinctively uses the planet’s network of life – the mycelium – to alter Spider’s body, enabling him to breathe on the moon without needing a mask.
Both The Way of Water and Fire & Ash show that connecting with Eywa isn’t without risks. Kiri’s seizures seem to happen when her body is overwhelmed trying to understand Eywa’s immense consciousness. Even though it’s physically taxing, Kiri has unique abilities – she can connect with animals and plants in a way that no one else can.
In the climax of Fire & Ash, Kiri connects with Eywa, the deity of Pandora, and seeks her help during the final fight.
After the recent clash, Kiri appears to have reached a new level of strength. She was able to defeat Varang, one of The Ash People, using an incredibly powerful voice that sounded like it came directly from Eywa.
Before the climactic fight, Ronal directly refers to Kiri as a “Chosen One”—the first time anyone has used that title for her. This feels accurate, as it’s increasingly clear Kiri was specially chosen and conceived by Eywa for an important destiny.
The ending of Fire & Ash suggests Kiri is now a central way Eywa expresses its will, and it seems this was her fate all along.
Breaking Down Kiri’s Potential Future In Avatar 4 & 5
![]()
Kiri’s story is becoming incredibly important, not just for Pandora, but potentially for the wider world of Avatar. She’s likely to play a major role in the upcoming fourth and fifth films. Like her brother Lo’ak, who narrated Avatar: The Way of Water, Kiri could even become a narrator for one or both of those movies.
It’s likely Kiri’s connection to Eywa will become even stronger, potentially leading her to become a savior-like figure for Pandora.
Similar to how Jake, as Toruk Makto, brought the Na’vi clans together, Kiri has the potential to unite all of Pandora in a way that’s never been done before.
If future Avatar films bring the story back to Earth, as some suggest, it would be really interesting to see if Kiri’s unique powers work there too. It would also be compelling to explore whether the energy of Eywa could help other planets, maybe even heal them.
Fans can definitely look forward to seeing Kiri develop further as the Avatar story continues.
