Avatar: Fire and Ash star has seen footage, says it's "extraordinary" and "amazing"

As a seasoned gamer and avid follower of cinematic history, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and nostalgia when it comes to the upcoming installment of the Avatar saga. Having grown up with the first movie, I vividly remember the awe-inspiring experience of immersing myself in Pandora’s vibrant world, and the sequel only added to that wonder.

Did you know that the original Avatar film holds the record for highest box office earnings, raking in almost $3 billion? The sequel, released in 2022 as Avatar: The Way of Water, ranks third on this list with a gross of over $2.3 billion. Disney has announced plans to release three more Avatar movies, the next one being Avatar: Fire and Ash, set for release next year. The question remains if it can match the impressive quality of its predecessors. It certainly needs to be remarkable!

Initial indications are positive. Actor Giovanni Ribisi, who portrayed the avaricious RDA administrator Parker Selfridge in the first two films, has viewed footage of the third (the public hasn’t caught a glimpse yet), and he is filled with compliments. “To put it simply, we did some additional filming [for ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’] two months ago in New Zealand, and I saw a small portion of it, and it’s nothing short of breathtaking,” he shared with The Direct. “I can’t express enough about it. It’s going to be incredible.”

It’s intriguing to note Rabisi’s extensive involvement, especially considering his significant part in the initial film. In the first movie, Parker Selfridge held a crucial position as head of the Avatar program and was ready to transgress ethical boundaries to extract valuable unobtanium from Pandora’s moon. He was relocated to Earth at the end of that film, appearing only through a video message in the second. However, it seems he has returned for enough scenes in the third movie to warrant additional filming, or “pick-up shots.”

As previously mentioned, director James Cameron has a vision for five movies, which implies that he’ll likely require a large cast to keep the story going. The movie “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is set to hit theaters on December 19, 2025
