Avatar: Fire and Ash confirms epic runtime ahead of next week’s release

James Cameron’s movies are famous for their amazing visual effects, but they’re also usually quite long. The upcoming third Avatar film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, continues that trend. With the release just a week away, more information about the movie has been revealed.

The movie follows Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their family as they encounter a new Na’vi tribe. But this tribe is much more dangerous and threatening than any they’ve faced before.

The new Avatar movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is officially 3 hours and 17 minutes long – a total of 197 minutes. That’s five minutes longer than Avatar: The Way of Water (from 2022), and 35 minutes longer than the original Avatar movie, according to the Irish Film Classification Office (IFCO). It will be released next week on December 19th.

The new science fiction adventure premiered in Los Angeles earlier this month and seems to be getting positive reviews, especially for its grand scope. While it won’t be available to the public for about a week, early reactions suggest it’s a hit.

Wow, I just saw Avatar: The Way of Water, and it was incredible! Erik Davis from Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes totally nailed it when he said it’s the biggest of the Avatar movies so far. It’s packed with action, the visuals are absolutely stunning, and it really makes you think about family, what we leave behind, and just trying to survive. Seriously, it’s a must-see in theaters!

As a fan, I’m just blown away by how seamlessly this movie blends fire, water, air, and the landscape itself into every single scene. It’s exactly what a big-budget blockbuster should be, and what I really appreciate is how perfectly it ties everything together from the previous three films.

According to Variety’s Courtney Howard, James Cameron continues to deliver with his third film, creating a spectacle that’s both epic and emotionally resonant. She describes it as a ‘glorious saga’ that is ‘bold, brilliant, and awesome’ in every aspect.

Although it’s been 16 years since the first film, two more movies are planned for release in 2029 and 2031. However, director James Cameron has said he wasn’t sure these sequels would actually happen.

He seemed at peace with the possibility of this being the end, saying, “If that’s how it goes, that’s fine.” He mentioned one remaining idea: writing a book. He also stated he’d always be heavily involved in any future Avatar films, but he’s reached a point where he needs to prioritize his life outside of the project.

Avatar: Fire and Ash will be released in cinemas on 19 December.
