Following the release of first-look images, fans of the original Avatar series are pushing for the new The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender movie to be shown in theaters. Many are now asking Paramount Pictures to reconsider releasing the film exclusively on Paramount+ and instead give it a cinematic release.
New Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender photos show adult Aang and more
New photos from the upcoming live-action series, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, offer fans a glimpse of what the characters look like years after the original cartoon ended. The pictures show an older Aang with the rest of his team, including Toph Beifong, and they all seem prepared for battle.
The photos caused a buzz on social media, getting fans excited about the project again. Many people also used the opportunity to ask for the movie to be shown in theaters.
Entertainment reporter Daniel Richtman shared his enthusiasm on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, saying he’s really looking forward to seeing a new movie in theaters.
Many fans reacted similarly online. One excitedly wrote, “GAANG IS REALLY BACK!” Another directly appealed to Paramount Pictures, asking them to re-release the movie in theaters. A third fan simply stated they wanted to see it on the big screen with their ‘goats’ – a term of endearment for the movie’s stars.
Originally, ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ was going to be released in movie theaters. But Paramount Pictures changed its plans earlier this year and will now release the film on their streaming service, Paramount+, this fall. They haven’t announced the specific release date yet.
The new plan for releasing the movie upset many fans, who started an online petition asking the studio to change its mind and show the film in cinemas. One fan wrote in the petition, “As a longtime Avatar: The Last Airbender fan, I was really disappointed to learn that Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender wouldn’t be released in theaters.”
This new project is a continuation of the story from Avatar: The Last Airbender, set several years after the original series ended.
