Author Steven Barnes discusses his upcoming Mace Windu novel

As a lifelong Star Wars fan who’s spent countless hours immersed in the galaxy far, far away, I can hardly contain my excitement for Steven Barnes‘ upcoming novel, “Star Wars: The Glass Abyss.” Having grown up with Mace Windu as one of my favorite Jedi masters, it’s a dream come true to see him take center stage once more.

With the weather growing chillier, Star Wars enthusiasts might be searching for a fresh read to snuggle up with and a steaming mug of tea. You’ve come to the right place! Keep an eye out for the new Steven Barnes novel, Star Wars: The Glass Abyss.

The book, titled “The Glass Abyss,” is slated for release on October 15 and is set during the timeframe between “The Phantom Menace” and “Attack of the Clones.” It follows Jedi master Mace Windu as he responds to a message from his late friend and fellow Jedi, Qui-Gon Jinn. In this story, Windu agrees to aid a planet on the Outer Rim at his friend’s request. Additionally, “The Glass Abyss” will be unveiling an exclusive cover for attendees of New York Comic Con who are quick enough to grab one.

This upcoming novel, “The Glass Abyss,” will mark the first time Windu is the main character since Disney took over the franchise in 2012, with the exception of the 2003 “Shatterpoint” book written by Matthew Stover, which was part of the Legends series and not considered within the canon timeline.

Barnes is familiar with writing within the Star Wars galaxy. He wrote the Legends novel Star Wars: The Cestus Deception

Recently, Barnes had a conversation with StarWars.com about his enthusiasm for the upcoming novel. He expressed that while he respected the portrayal of the characters in the films, he saw an opportunity to carve out unique psychological and spiritual aspects within the book. He also mentioned enjoying the process of challenging Mace’s mindset. As Barnes delved deeper into developing Windu’s character and exploring his inner world through writing, he pondered: What kind of individual would Mace Windu be?

Fans adore the character ever since Samuel L. Jackson breathed life into him during the prequel trilogy. Many enthusiasts have longed for additional tales about this character, who has grown in the Star Wars universe, appearing extensively in The Clone Wars series and even having his own comic book franchise.

In a straightforward and engaging manner: Mace Windu is not just a character known for his purple lightsaber; according to Barnes, he aimed to create a story that resonates with Star Wars fans, science fiction enthusiasts, and readers who appreciate his philosophical perspective. Barnes wanted the narrative to be quick, profound, yet accessible, maintaining the excitement we’ve come to expect from such stories, while also offering unexpected insights into the characters’ humanity.

As an eager reader, I can’t help but feel the excitement building up! With its release date set for October 15th, Star Wars: The Glass Abyss is poised to be a blockbuster hit this fall and holiday season. Could it potentially top the bestseller charts? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure – I can hardly wait!
