Author and wife of Weezer bassist pleads not guilty to charges from LAPD shooting

On Tuesday, criminal charges were brought against Jillian Lauren Shriner, a popular novelist and wife of Weezer‘s bassist Scott Shriner, by the prosecutors in Los Angeles County. This action followed an incident last month where she was injured by police after it was claimed that she fired shots at them from her backyard.

The author known as Lauren stood before a courthouse in downtown L.A., denying charges for recklessly firing a gun and assault with a semi-automatic weapon. Prosecutors are pushing for tougher penalties related to firearms, which could add to her potential sentence. If found guilty, she could spend up to 19 years behind bars.

At the age of 51, Lauren appeared in a full-white outfit before the judge during her court appearance, choosing not to share any comments regarding her case following the hearing with her attorneys, Hilary Potashner and Kim Wilkinson, present by her side.

The compiled police video, which consists of footage captured by officers’ body cameras and CCTV, depicted a state of perplexity as Jillian Lauren was shot this month, in the crucial minutes prior to the incident.

Initially, Lauren was scheduled for April 9th due to alleged attempted murder suspicions, following a puzzling incident with the LAPD. In the afternoon, law enforcement officials were on the hunt for three individuals suspected of a hit-and-run accident on the 134 Freeway. Reports from 911 calls in the area suggested that these suspects were attempting to conceal themselves in the backyards of houses near Eagle Rock.

The investigation led police to Lauren’s yard, where a clash took place when she was found there with a handgun in her backyard.

In the footage from police body cameras and home security systems, it appeared that Lauren lifted her firearm towards a fence which the officers were hiding behind. According to the authorities, she ignored their orders to surrender the weapon and instead fired at them. They claimed they responded with gunfire, striking Lauren in the arm.

After rushing back inside her residence, she stayed there for approximately an hour. Subsequently, she was admitted to a hospital and eventually detained by the Highway Patrol.

There seems to be evidence suggesting that Lauren might not have been able to hear the officers because a police helicopter was hovering over the incident site, potentially mistaking her for the fleeing suspects. In a video shared by the LAPD, a neighbor is heard telling a 911 operator that Lauren appeared confused about the situation: “There were three men, and one of them shot her, and the police are searching for him right now… They have their guns drawn.

The federal judge decided that rapper Lil Durk (Durk Devontay Banks) should continue to be held in custody before the trial begins, due to his breach of prison regulations by illegally accessing other inmates’ phone accounts and participating in multiple call connections.

Originating from New Jersey, this author has earned recognition as a New York Times Bestseller for her books “Everything You Ever Wanted” and “Some Girls: My Life in a Harem”, which detail her experiences with Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei. More recently, she released “Behold the Monster: Facing America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer”, an exploration into the psyche of serial killer Samuel Little. She has been wed to Shriner since 2005 and they share two sons together.

The initial court session to decide if the accusations against Lauren will proceed has been set for June 18.
