David Genat shared that he contacted Jonathan LaPaglia after LaPaglia was let go as the host of Australian Survivor last year.
Genat, age 45, began hosting the show after LaPaglia’s departure, which was surrounded by controversy. He also stated that he and LaPaglia weren’t close friends.
So, I was chatting with Carrie and Tommy on the Hit Network yesterday, and they really wanted to know what’s going on with all the changes happening on Australian Survivor. They were definitely digging for details, and it was fun to give them a little insight!
When Carrie Bickmore, his co-host, asked if things were tense with Jonathan LaPaglia, the former contestant responded that it was a question better directed at LaPaglia himself. He did add that he thinks Jonathan is great.
In the interview, Genat mentioned LaPaglia had responded to a message, but she didn’t share what he said. She simply stated that their relationship was ‘good’.
He continued: ‘I wouldn’t say we’re friends, but yeah. I mean, it’s fine. Of course you’re upset.’
Genat also clarified that he wasn’t involved in the decision to let LaPaglia go, despite the actor being a popular host of the show for nearly ten years.
Genat clarified that she wasn’t part of the decision to end the show, but she did reach out to him, praising his work and emphasizing the lasting impact of his contributions.

‘I just sent him a nice message to just tell him, like how much I respected him.’
It comes after Genat was announced as LaPaglia’s replacement last August.
The reality TV star, originally from Australia and now living in Texas with his family, first appeared on the Australian version of Survivor in 2019, competing on the Champions v Contenders season.
He was eliminated from the show as the 14th castaway, but returned for the 2020 season, Australian Survivor All Stars, and ultimately won the competition.
Last June, actor Anthony LaPaglia surprised viewers by revealing he’d been let go from the show after being its lead for nearly ten years.
Fans showed overwhelming support for the TV star after he announced he would be hosting his final episode of the Australia V The World series, which debuted on Sunday.
He later detailed the brutal way he found out he had lost his job.

I was hoping for a direct call myself, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen – a little disappointing, to be honest!
