Australian Idol Winner Damien Leith’s Son, 17, Following Dad’s Musical Footsteps
It seems that musical talent runs in the family for Damien Leith, as it often happens that the fruit doesn’t stray too far from the tree in terms of inherited traits.
In the year of 2006, I was catapulted into stardom when I clinched the victory on Channel Ten’s colossal vocal competition, Australian Idol, at the tender age of 49.
Despite a slight dip in popularity recently, his son Mick Jagger is undeniably stepping into his father’s limelight on the stage.
This 17-year-old individual, boasting a strikingly attractive visage and well-defined physique, has already put out a series of songs. His most recent single, titled “I Miss You,” was released in January.
He is currently hitting the road with his father, participating in a series of concerts that are part of Damien’s Ireland-based orchestra tour.
Damien shared with Woman’s Day magazine that the artist he was performing with hadn’t yet been born during his time on Idol, making their shared stage moment truly astonishing.
Damien mentioned that even though Jagger’s pop style is quite different from his own preference for traditional folk and rock, he is always a valuable source of guidance for his son.
Damien mentioned that Jagger often seeks me out whenever he’s struggling with lyrics or needs inspiration for a chorus, and I always lend a hand,” said Damien.
He’s open to considering my suggestions since he values independence, but if he doesn’t agree with them, he won’t hesitate to let me know, despite the fact that we share a father-son relationship.
And Jagger’s not the only one taking after their talented father.
As a devoted father like Damien, I’m proud to share that my sons Jarvis, aged 19, and daughter Kikki, 14, along with my partner Eileen Stapleton, have a shared love for music. Our whole family is musically inclined!
The contestant who won the Idol competition expressed his hope that his career insights from the music industry would benefit his kids as they chase their own musical dreams.
‘I’m so proud of all three of my kids, they’re obsessed with singing and acting,’ he said.
‘I tell them it’s an amazing industry, but you need a tough skin and you’ve got to be prepared.’
In an interview with the Illawarra Mercury in 2023, Damien expressed that his house was always the most lively and noisy on the block due to the music.
At any given moment, it’s as if someone is serenading a tune from a musical, another person is tapping away on a piano, and someone else is strumming an electric guitar – all happening simultaneously downstairs,” he explained.
Listening to my kids discuss their ideas and plans brings back memories of when I was 17. It’s amazing to see how captivated they are by everything, and it leaves me in awe, thinking “I can’t believe they’re experiencing the same things I did at that age.
In 2006, Damien gained nationwide recognition as the victor of the Australian Idol competition.
In addition to being in a favorable environment, he outshone other notable contenders such as Jessica Mauboy (the runner-up), Lisa Mitchell, Bobby Flynn, and Dean Geyer to secure the championship title.
As a devoted admirer, I’ve managed to transform my idol status into a fulfilling career marked by the creation and release of nine captivating studio albums, among which are not one but two chart-toppers.
Besides winning an ARIA for his album “The Winner’s Journey” following Idol, Damien also received a Golden Guitar in the year 2017 for his song “Call me Cray.
Apart from his performances on stage, Damien has held down jobs as a radio presenter in the Hunter Valley and Wollongong regions.
This versatile individual is not only skilled in multiple areas but has also made significant strides as an author, having written three books: “One More Time” published in 2007, “Remember June” from the same year, and “The Extraordinary Misadventures of Lake and Birdy”, which came out in 2025.
