Australian actress joins Chappell Roan in rejecting ‘overnight success’ label as she describes fame as a ‘painstaking process’
I, much like Alycia Debnam-Carey and Chappell Roan, have spent countless years honing my craft, chasing dreams, and enduring the ups and downs of the journey that is life. Their candid words resonate deeply with me, as I too have been labeled an “overnight success,” a label that could not be further from the truth.
An Australian actress has hit out at being labelled an ‘overnight success’ after US popstar Chappell Roan also dismissed the label.
Alycia Debnam-Carey, who’s well-known for her roles in Fear the Walking Dead and The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, emphasized that her ascent to stardom in Hollywood was more of a gradual process rather than a rapid one.
In an open conversation with Stellar magazine, Alycia, aged 31, referred to building a career in acting as a lengthy and laborious journey, as she recounted the many years of effort that preceded her recognition.
She mentioned to the media outlet that while we often hear about the impressive achievements of people who seemed to quickly rise to success, the reality is that for many actors, it’s actually a long and challenging journey.
‘People aren’t aware of how much strategy goes into everything and how much timing is involved.’
Previously, Alycia played leading roles in extended TV series such as Fear the Walking Dead and The 100. However, her career reached unprecedented popularity with the drama miniseries The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, where she appeared alongside esteemed actors Sigourney Weaver and Asher Keddie.
Following Alycia’s nomination for four Logie Awards due to her performance in the Amazon series, she is experiencing a brighter glare of the limelight than before.

She emphasized that it’s certainly not an easy path for those lacking resilience and ambition, when speaking about making a living in the entertainment industry known as Hollywood.
She, too, refutes the notion of being an ‘overnight success’, following in the footsteps of singer Chappell Roan who claims she’s merely receiving recognition for years of hard work behind the scenes.
She shared with Rolling Stone magazine, “It’s really frustrating that it’s only now that people are starting to listen to what I have to say.
‘Like, ‘You know what, b***h? I’ve been doing this s**t and you’re just now catching up.’
Following the worldwide success of her 2023 debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Chappell faced unfounded claims that she was merely an ‘industry plant’.
In reality, Chappell has had a long career in the music industry, dating back to when she released her current chart-topper Pink Pony Club in 2020.

After three years, she’s reaping the benefits of her dedication and has built a worldwide following, yet fame itself isn’t something she actively pursues.
‘I’ve never given a f**k about the charts or radio,’ she told Interview magazine.
In my heart, I yearn for a moment when I won’t strike another success, for fear that once more, the world will set its expectations upon me.
Chappell has openly discussed setting limits with her followers, as she navigates the unusual fan interest she’s encountered due to her rising fame.
