Austin Butler didn’t know whether he’d get along with Tom Hardy
As a huge fan of both Austin Butler and Tom Hardy, I was absolutely thrilled to hear about their dynamic on the set of “The Bikeriders.” When I first read that they didn’t know if they would get along, I have to admit I was a little worried. But based on the testimonies of director Jeff Nichols and Tom Hardy himself, it seems that any initial apprehension was quickly quelled by their mutual respect and admiration for each other.
Austin Butler, the leading actor in “The Bikeriders,” admitted he had doubts about developing a good working relationship with his fellow cast member Tom Hardy prior to their collaboration.
“The film ‘The Bikeriders’ is inspired by Danny Lyon’s 1968 photobook with the same title and portrays the story of a motorcycle club in Chicago called the Vandals. In this production, Hardy assumes the role of Johnny, the current leader, while Butler depicts the young member Benny, whom Johnny intends to pass on the leadership role to.”
In her conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Butler shared, “It’s unpredictable when crossing paths with admired figures if there will be a connection. Tom Hanks has the ability to make me laugh more intensely than most people in this world.”
According to Director Jeff Nichols, there existed a strong and amicable relationship between the two actors, Benny and Kathy, portrayed by Chris Pine and Jodie Comer respectively. He went on to share insights about filming the significant scene where Benny is introduced to his girlfriend for the first time.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: “When Benny approached Kathy for a chat, I called out, ‘Austin, rotate your chair around.’ I suggested. And with that adjustment, my bulging biceps and triceps caught the light.”
In an interview with Digital Spy, Hardy expressed his high regard for Butler, referring to him as “simply amazing” or “truly impressive”.
“He’s a really generous, sensitive soul, and a very capable artist,” he said. “He’s got a lot to say and to do in his life. I hope to get to work with him again, I think he’s brilliant.”
In addition to the cast members of “Bikeriders,” this production features actors from renowned shows. Notable among them are Norman Reedus, famously known for his role in “The Walking Dead,” Mike Faist from “Challengers,” and Boyd Holbrook, who gained recognition for his part in “The Sandman.”
Since its debut at the Telluride Film Festival in 2023, the film has been warmly accepted by critics, boasting a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 81% based on collected reviews.
The film is currently playing in cinemas across the country, while American viewers can purchase or rent it on Amazon, iTunes, Microsoft Store, and various other digital platforms. However, the exact date for its digital release in the UK has yet to be announced.
You can now obtain “The Bikeriders” for rental or purchase on platforms such as Amazon, iTunes, and Microsoft Store, along with other digital marketplaces.
