Aussie Star of ‘Invisible Boys’ Gets Dream Role in New Hunger Games Prequel!

Joseph Zada, who plays a key character in Invisible Boys, is set to make a significant mark in Hollywood as he’s been chosen for the main role in the forthcoming film adaptation of The Hunger Games.

An Australian actor aged 20 successfully secured the sought-after part in the upcoming prequel movie titled “Sunrise on the Reaping,” which is established around 30 years prior to the events of the Hunger Games trilogy, after competing against numerous other contenders during the audition process.

In another portrayal, the role of Haymitch Abernathy, initially played by Woody Harrelson between 2012 and 2015, will be taken on by Joseph in a depiction of a younger version of this iconic character.

Following the evaluation of numerous talented artists worldwide, Zada was notably distinguished, as stated by Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-President Erin Westerman.

The character of Haymitch is beloved not only because of his talent, but also due to the deep, emotional authenticity he brings to his iconic role.

‘The backstory of his character is highly anticipated within the franchise. We’re excited for fans to live through the tale that molded one of the most intriguing personalities in the series.’

The film, which will hit theaters in November 2026, is being helmed by esteemed director Francis Lawrence, known for his work on The Hunger Games series.

Whitney Peak, known for her role in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and Mckenna Grace from the movie I, Tonya are set to appear together.

In the upcoming project, Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Mckenna Grace (I, Tonya) will be featured.

The Hunger Games films derive their plot from the novel series authored by Suzanne Collins, and they narrate the tale of Katniss Everdeen, a resident of the post-catastrophe country known as Panem situated in North America.

Each year, a competition called The Hunger Games takes place. This contest is held across the twelve districts that surround the capital city. In this event, one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each district are chosen at random to participate in a deadly fight broadcast on television.

Earlier this year, Joseph gained prominence by starring as the main character in the Stan series titled “Invisible Boys,” working alongside Pia Miranda.

In February, Holden Sheppard, author of “Invisible Boys”, explained why he believes the Stan Original Series adapted from his popular book is particularly pertinent in today’s context.

In the emotionally-charged atmosphere of 2025, an Australian author emphasizes that the on-screen portrayal of his 2019 young adult novel featuring four gay teenagers navigating life in a small Western Australian town is a narrative that urgently requires telling.

According to Holden’s statement to Daily Mail Australia, the television show is facing a less welcoming reception compared to the book, which was published in 2019 when same-sex marriage became legal in Australia.

He remarked, “Some folks suggested that tales similar to this might not be necessary anymore. However, as it turned out, the year 2025 needed this story far more than we did six years prior, and I’m pleased about it.

It’s akin to a small ray of optimism at the moment. Let’s portray four courageous young men standing up for themselves, being unapologetically assertive, proud, and flipping society the bird in a powerful display of self-expression.

The unexpected victory of Republican nominee Donald Trump in the U.S. elections last November has sparked an increase in conservative measures across the nation, as his executive orders are perceived to specifically impact the transgender community.

Additionally, his victory has sparked increased conversations about opposing perspectives on LGBTQ+ issues on social media platforms, with conservative individuals expressing their views more openly and confidently.

Holden’s novel is rooted in his personal experiences as a youthful gay individual living in the rural Western Australian town of Geraldton, and he put great effort into making sure the Stan series accurately depicted same-sex relationships.

He thinks that various types of audiences will find the series appealing, as its topics touch on universal truths.

All ten episodes of Invisible Boys are available to stream now, only on Stan.
