Aussie Star Katie Noonan’s Triple Tragedy: Marriage, Band, & Muse Lost in 1 Year

Katie Noonan has shared a heartbreaking update on social media after revealing a year of loss.

On Sunday, the Australian singer, who is now 47 years old, used Instagram as a platform to share the challenging experiences she’s faced over the past year. She mourned the loss of her father, the dissolution of her marriage, and the disintegration of her long-standing band.

In a heartfelt Instagram message this past year, I expressed deep sorrow and mourning, capturing my feelings in a poignant black-and-white selfie, much like George’s lead singer.

As a fervent devotee, I’m feeling profoundly wounded and drained, yet discovering immense comfort in realizing that I’m not treading this novel journey all on my own – solitary, yet part of the universal whole.

She disclosed that parting ways with her husband and bandmate, Isaac Hurren, led to both the dissolution of their marriage and the end of the band they had jointly established, known as Elixir.

Additionally, it was revealed that Katie’s creative inspiration for the band’s last two albums, Michael Leunig, died a month following a significant personal tragedy in her life. This unfortunate event served as another heavy blow to the musician.

Over these past challenging months, I’ve found myself grappling with an intense whirlwind of sorrow, immense pressure, and deep-rooted emotional and physical discomfort. To be honest, I’m unsure about how to find my way through this transformed version of myself.

In my perspective, as a lifestyle guide, the somber tone of our conversation took a turn for the better when the gifted singer shared that even amidst her crushing grief, she’s determined to prioritize herself in the future.

‘As I reach out for arms who don’t want or need me, I don’t know who I am anymore.’

She added: ‘I do know I need to get better and look after myself – as nobody else will.

‘All I know is music saves me and there is medicine in pain,’ she ended the post.

The surprising announcement was made, following the celebration of their 20th wedding anniversary in November of the previous year, by Katie and her saxophonist husband, Isaac.

Katie shared a sweet post of the couple on Instagram showing no sign of their looming split.

The pair, who are parents to two kids, first encountered each other at a concert in Brisbane. Since then, they’ve been working on making music together.

In 2020, it was disclosed that Katie had been depending on the JobKeeper financial assistance from the government to keep her finances stable during the coronavirus crisis.

The musician began losing income when her tours were cancelled in March.

Katie shared with The Courier Mail: “The massive financial loss I suffered as an independent producer left me incapacitated. Fortunately, JobKeeper provided crucial support and I was fortunate enough to qualify for it.

Originally slated for a tour in March, the ARIA-winning artist had plans to perform, but Australia imposed lockdowns and travel limitations, preventing the tour from taking place.

Although she’s fortunate to benefit from government assistance, she acknowledged that the entire industry might need an extended period to recover fully.

Katie stated, “We suffered the initial brunt of the industry’s decline, and I fearfully predict that it might take us the longest to bounce back.

The lead vocalist of “Breathe In Now” similarly accused numerous radio stations nationwide of neglecting to play Australian musicians on the airwaves, despite their inability to generate income through live performances.

She stated that many individuals think music should be freely available online, and while this may be true, it leaves artists without income. The main method for earning a living currently is by performing live to a big audience, but unfortunately, that’s not an option at the moment.
