Aussie mum reveals the shocking lie she told her son – and you won’t believe how she justifies her actions
As an individual who has had my fair share of personal experiences with family dynamics and unconventional methods to shape behavior, I find Maria’s story both intriguing and thought-provoking. While her actions may have been extreme, it’s undeniable that she was driven by a deep love and concern for her son.
A mother has revealed she lied to her son about having terminal cancer.
Every Wednesday, I can’t wait for The Kyle & Jackie O Show to air! You never know what secret confessions will be shared during the ‘Confession Booth’ segment. This week, a listener named Maria called in to share her story with her son, Mustafa. She was finally ready to confess something that had been weighing heavily on her heart.
Maria shared with hosts Jackie O Henderson and Kyle Sandilands that her son used to misbehave and party excessively during his youth. As a result, this single mother opted to pretend she had a life-threatening illness.
She thought that accusing him of causing her health issues might make the young man feel so remorseful that he’d start living a more upright life.
The mother confessed to the show’s hosts that she had been diagnosed with cancer, which has advanced and is no longer curable, primarily as a result of the tension and worry her behavior was instilling in her.
Now, he’s transformed into an entirely new kid. I’m absolutely amazed by the results. It’s incredible how much he’s changed, she concluded.
Maria admitted that she’d kept up a deception over the last year through arranging sham meetings, altering medical documents, and even enlisted Mustafa to drive her to the hospital on false pretenses.
Astonished host Kyle, aged 53, commented, ‘He takes you to the hospital for what he believes are cancer treatments, only for you to be sitting in the cafeteria enjoying pastries and coffee instead?’
Before the hosts phoned her son, Maria admitted that what they suspected was true, as she felt it was time to reveal her deceit.
Maria reassured her son, saying, “Thankfully, I don’t have cancer and I’m not near death.”
‘I just had to do it to get you back on track and hopefully you forgive me.’
Mustafa asked, “Hold on a moment, are you saying that you lied about being ill so I would believe it and take care of you?”
‘I’m sorry,’ she said, ‘But I’m cancer free.’

Jackie, 49, then asked whether he could forgive his mother for her year-long lie.
‘It’ll take me a while because I’m just lost for words. I don’t know what to say,’ Mustafa said.
Kyle wrapped up the segment by claiming Maria did ‘the wrong thing for the right reasons.’
‘I don’t know about that,’ replied Mustafa, ‘I think we need to have a talk, mum.’
