Aussie influencer cops backlash over surprising detail in family video: 'I'm sick of it'

As a dedicated follower and long-time observer of Steph Claire Smith’s journey, I find myself deeply moved by her recent decision to blur out her son’s face in her Instagram posts. Having followed her since her early days as a fitness influencer, it is evident that she has always been transparent about her life, sharing both her triumphs and challenges with her audience.

A popular fitness personality from Australia has faced a wave of criticism following the obscuring of her son’s image in one of her videos.

Last week, Steph Claire Smith posted a heartwarming video on Instagram, showing her family’s fun-filled day at a monster truck event.

Smith, aged 30, who often posts advice about health, nutrition, and motherhood, has earlier revealed her three-year-old son’s likeness; however, she has chosen to conceal his identity moving forward.

Some of KIC co-founder’s fans thought her sudden decision was questionable.

‘Now! You’re blocking his face out?! Glad he had fun! Looks amazing!’ one commenter wrote.

‘Oh my God. Nah, that’s it I’m done. Blurred face has done it for me,’ wrote another.

‘Ikr we’ve seen him a million times,’ a third replied. ‘That’s why it’s strange.’

Shortly following these remarks, Steph chose to use her Instagram Stories to clarify her decision to blur her son’s features, expressing that she was tired of the judgement.

She started off surprised, saying she couldn’t believe she was spending time discussing this topic, as evidenced in the video that is no longer available.

‘But honestly, some people… I have spoken about this in my stories and on my podcast before.’

Steph mentioned that young Harvey is at an age when he isn’t constantly under our supervision, and he appears quite childlike.

‘He is a lot more recognisable,’ the influencer said.

Steph mentioned that a surprising number of individuals, even strangers, are familiar with Harvey’s name due to his large online presence (over 1.5 million followers on Instagram). This recognition often confuses the youngster as it is unexpected.

She mentioned that they, along with her husband Josh Miller, chose to hide the boy’s face before he began attending school.

Steph expressed her astonishment in an Instagram video, saying, “I can’t help but wonder why some people think it’s acceptable to comment on my life and decisions as if they have a say.

It seems there are images and memorabilia of him stored online, which wasn’t intended to fully remove him from the web. Instead, it was to preserve a portion of his digital presence.

‘It was to avoid putting up anything from now as he’s growing into, as he looks like a little boy.’
