A seaside cottage on the Central Coast, often frequented by renowned cricketer Steve Waugh, is up for auction.
In the 1950s, the three-bedroom, one-bathroom house was bought by Steve’s grandmother-in-law, Lynette Waugh’s grandparents, for just $250.
No price guide has been listed for the cosy, classically styled holiday home.
According to The Daily Telegraph, real estate experts predict the house will be sold for more than 1.6 million dollars, as per their estimation.
Located a short distance from Patonga Beach, approximately 100 kilometers north of Sydney, this cozy vacation home has been owned by the Waugh family for an impressive 70 years.
Lloyd and Opal Doughty, Lynette’s grandparents, bought the charming dwelling as a summer escape.
As our family grew larger over the years, we eventually found ourselves needing more space, so different family members purchased properties in that area. This continued until we ended up with a total of four vacation homes within our family, as Lynette explained to the publication.
‘In an informal custom, every newborn is given a name at Patonga Creek, signifying their entry into the community.’
Lynette confirmed that she and Steve still have a holiday home nearby and have no plans to sell it.
Located a mere 100 meters away from picturesque Patonga Beach, this retreat retains its 1950s charm while being meticulously preserved.
Highlights include a classic front verandah with decorative iron lacing and large windows.
Located on a spacious plot featuring a generous backyard, this property is perfect for those looking for a house that needs some renovation work.
Other features include polished floorboards and a ‘sunroom’ which can double as a third bedroom.
In the year 2015, the pair attracted attention as they successfully sold their Sydney residence for a substantial sum of $1.9 million.
They made a significant profit when they purchased that initial property in southern Sydney back in 1986 for just $56,000, and it turned out to be a substantial gain later on.
Situated at Alfords Point, approximately 28 kilometers from the city center, they constructed a spacious, two-story Federation-style residence with five bedrooms on the property.
The house located near Mill Creek Reserve features tall ceilings, an adaptable layout, and numerous living spaces such as a fashionable lounge, family room, play area, and atrium.
Waugh, 59, rose to fame after making his debut in first-class cricket in the NSW side in 1984.
In 1990, the champion got married to Lynette. Together they have three kids: Rosie who is 28, Austin who is 24, and Lilli who is 21.
The middle-order batsman went onto first captain Australia’s Test Team in 1999.
In 2004, Steve Waugh, widely recognized as Australia’s most victorious test captain with a record of 41 wins out of 57 matches, decided to retire from cricket permanently.
Together with Lynette, they established The Steve Waugh Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to helping children and their families who are battling rare illnesses.
