Aurora win PGL Masters Bucharest 2025: Mid-tier force in CS2 established

The Turkish team faced some tough defeats during the tournament, but Aurora ultimately bounced back and won decisively against their last opponents.

The Counter-Strike 2 competition is incredibly demanding, making it easy to only pay attention to the major tournaments. However, the esports world extends beyond just the most famous teams like Vitality and MOUZ, and their competition. There are many strong up-and-coming teams challenging the leaders.

The PGL Masters Bucharest 2025 tournament allowed many of the leading contenders to face off against each other. With a $1,250,000 prize pool, the event was attractive to top-level teams.

Rollercoaster of Aurora

Going into PGL Masters Bucharest 2025, Aurora was widely considered the favorite to win. They’ve been consistently competing and have had some impressive results lately.

  • Aurora reached the grand final at the CS2 Esports World Cup but got destroyed by The MongolZ.
  • They were in the top 4 at the Thunderpick World Championship 2025. Still, there were only four teams of a high level at that event.

Tournament run at Bucharest 

Aurora’s victory at PGL Masters Bucharest 2025 marks their first major tournament win. The team experienced a lot of ups and downs along the way, making the achievement even more rewarding.

Aurora won their first two matches, defeating Fnatic and Team Liquid. The first game against Fnatic went to overtime, but Aurora ultimately prevailed. Team Liquid also won a game that went to overtime, but Aurora still advanced.

After a strong start, Aurora hit a rough patch, losing to both HEROIC and SAW. A particularly concerning moment was their 4:13 defeat on Mirage against HEROIC, which is worrying for both the team and their supporters.

Astralis, filling in for Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz with their coach, initially put Aurora in a difficult position in their qualifying match. However, Aurora fought back and successfully advanced to the Playoffs at PGL Masters Bucharest 2025.

Aurora had a close call in the quarterfinals against B8, but managed to win. They then dominated GamerLegion in the semifinals, winning both games with a score of 13 to 1.

Legacy also performed very well at PGL Masters Bucharest 2025. They recently secured their first major tournament victory at the CS Asia Championships 2025.

Legacy put up a strong challenge against Aurora in the grand final. Despite falling behind 0-2, they fought back and won a hard-fought overtime match on Train, tying the score. However, Aurora Gaming ultimately won the series on a very close final map, preventing Legacy from completing a comeback.

More power in the CS2 mid tier!

There’s a lot more to CS2 esports than just Aurora and Legacy. The competition is incredibly strong, consistently challenging even the top teams to improve.

  • paiN Gaming proved their great potential, despite not playing too often at tournaments.

  • B8 reached the top 8, which feels pretty great for these young players. They are among the Budapest Major participants, so let’s keep an eye on this team.

  • SAW were one of the biggest discoveries at PGL Masters Bucharest 2025. Not many people expected to see this team in the top 3.

Many up-and-coming Counter-Strike 2 teams try to compete in most major esports tournaments, though not every team that qualified for PGL Masters Bucharest 2025 will be present at all of them.

We could see some surprising results at IEM Chengdu 2025, especially during the Group Stage, which runs from November 3rd to 5th.
