Aurora stun CS2 world with Eternal Fire team signing

The Aurora jersey will be seen at PGL Bucharest this week.

As a passionate follower of CS2, I can’t help but express my excitement over today’s shocking announcement! It seems like the Serbian powerhouse Aurora has pulled off a major move, shaking up the competitive scene by parting ways with their current roster and snatching up the top-tier Turkish team, Eternal Fire.

Just a few hours after announcing their previous roster’s departure, the organization unveiled that the Turkish team, spearheaded by Engin “MAJ3R” Küpeli, would now compete under the Aurora name, beginning as soon as this week at PGL Bucharest. This unexpected shift left the entire scene in a state of astonishment.

Eternal Fire move to Aurora citing “inadequacy of sponsorship conditions” in Türkiye

On April 5th, Aurora shared the update that their current team members – Aleksandr “KENSi”, Robert “Patsi”, Evgeny “Norwi”, Denis “deko”, Timur “calx”, and coach Andrey “XomA” Mironenko – would be parting ways.

In the middle of 2024, Aurora displayed promising moments at some second-tier competitions amidst a generally average performance. However, this season was challenging for them due to numerous roster adjustments. Regrettably, missed chances in leagues and qualifiers prevented Aurora’s CS2 team from participating in any offline events by 2025.

The shift is underway as the Eternal Fire CS2 team joins Aurora Gaming, entering the organization two hours after they had parted ways with their previous squad. As a representative of Aurora announced in a press statement, “It’s a privilege to welcome such skilled players under the Aurora Gaming banner.

People didn’t fully accept the news until Eternal Fire shared a goodbye message to their CS:GO team shortly afterwards. “In 2021, we began this journey with grand ambitions as our Counter-Strike squad. As a Turkish team that climbed into the top five global rankings, it’s hard to forget the historic moments we created.

Özgür “woxic” Eker explained the reason behind his team’s departure as primarily financial. He stated that recent events suggest a challenging future for their CS:GO squad, and unfortunately, the insufficient sponsorship conditions in Turkey forced them to make this unfortunate decision.

Captain Engin “MAJ3R” Küpeli expressed on Twitter that he’s been impartial towards both players and organizations. He wishes things could have turned out differently, but he believes this turn of events serves the greater good.

“My heart is broken, there is sadness on my face… goodbye EF family!”

For the past year, Eternal Fire has been traveling extensively, participating in nearly every major tournament. They made history as the first Turkish team to qualify for the playoffs of a Major event, and they’ve maintained that level of performance consistently throughout the season.

In the current standings, Aurora has amassed sufficient points to progress to the third phase of the Austin Major. They are set to make their debut at this week’s PGL Bucharest tournament.
