Aubrey Plaza’s husband Jeff Baena is mourned following death at 47: ‘I will be grateful for his wit and talent’
As someone who has always admired the indie film scene and its creators, I am deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Jeff Baena. His talent as a writer and director was evident in his unique and heartfelt films that brought comfort to so many viewers, myself included.
I remember discovering Baena’s work during my college years when I was figuring out my own path in life. The Little Hours, Life After Beth, and Horse Girl were all movies that resonated with me on a personal level, and I found solace in their quirky humor and emotional depth.
Baena’s journey to success is inspiring, especially his perseverance in the face of adversity. Starting out as a writer on I Heart Huckabees and gradually moving on to directing and producing his own projects, he was able to create a body of work that will live on for generations to come.
One thing that always struck me about Baena’s films was their ability to tackle complex themes with a light touch. He had a knack for taking serious subjects and making them accessible and relatable to audiences, all while maintaining a unique voice and style.
I am heartbroken to learn of his passing, but I take solace in knowing that his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his work. I can only hope that one day, a new generation of filmmakers will find inspiration in Baena’s oeuvre and continue his mission to bring meaningful, thought-provoking films to the world.
In memory of Jeff Baena, I’ll leave you with this joke: Why did the indie filmmaker cross the road? To get to the other side of the camera, of course! Rest in peace, Jeff. Your work will never be forgotten.
Many heartfelt tributes have poured out for Jeff Baena, Aubrey Plaza’s spouse who was renowned for writing and directing movies like “Life After Beth” and “Horse Girl.” Sadly, he passed away unexpectedly at the age of 47.
Following his unfortunate death, supporters across the globe mourned deeply upon hearing the news, which was officially announced by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, just a day after his lifeless body was found in a residence in Los Angeles on Friday.
According to their statement to Deadline, the family is deeply saddened by the recent developments and kindly requests seclusion during these difficult moments.
One enthusiastic fan expressed, ‘Jeff Baena was an exceptionally gifted filmmaker and screenwriter. His movies are among my favorites, and I’ll always appreciate his cleverness and skill. He’ll truly be missed.’
A different user posted: “Jeff’s films gave me such solace. He was my small, independent filmmaker. Honestly, I never thought this day would come. Farewell, Jeff Baena.
A user expressed their condolences in the following manner: ‘Jeff Baena has passed away. His movies offered me great solace, memories of which I’ll cherish forever. I can hardly fathom how his friends and family are coping, but my thoughts and affection are with them.’
Another person chimed in, saying, “‘Jeff Baena’s films have always held a special place for me. When I was sixteen and exploring my sexual identity, ‘The Little Hours’ was the movie that resonated with me the most.’
Others took to social media to send Plaza and his family love during this difficult time.
One expressed, ‘I wish she’s coping as well as possible,’ while others urged everyone to ‘show respect’ during this difficult time for his family.
Baena was found dead by an assistant on Friday in his LA home around 10:30 am.
The Life After Beth director was pronounced dead at the scene.
DailyMail.com has reached out to Baena representatives and to the police for comment.
After earning a film degree from New York University, Baena transitioned into the movie industry by relocating to Los Angeles to kick-start his professional journey.
In the early stages of his career, he held entry-level positions under prominent filmmakers like Robert Zemeckis and David O. Russell, eventually serving as a production assistant for Zemeckis and an assistant editor for Russell, helping him establish himself in the film industry.
He gained significant recognition for his directorial work on films such as “Life After Beth,” which marked his first directorial venture and featured Plaza, as well as “The Little Hours.
He also co-wrote I Heart Huckabees, which was nominated for a 2004 Gotham Award for Best Feature.
Apart from that, he is known for creating “Life After Beth,” which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014. Similarly, his movie “Joshy” made its first appearance at the same prestigious event and even received a nomination for the Grand Jury Prize.
The Miami native also worked on Horse Girl and Spin Me Round.
In the realm of television, he was both the director and executive producer for the Showtime series titled Cinema Toast. Collaboratively, he and his spouse took charge of directing this project.
In a quiet ceremony held in May 2021, over a decade since their first meeting in 2011, the Star of The White Lotus secretly wed his partner, maintaining a low profile and mostly shielding their relationship from public scrutiny.
Plaza has not publicly commented on the death of her husband.
The actress’s final Instagram post with her husband revealed how ‘proud’ she was of him.
In a post shared in May 2021, the acclaimed actress affectionately referred to as her husband.
My beloved husband, Jeff Baena, is making us travel to Italy again with his latest film idea, causing even more mischief! I couldn’t be prouder,” she wrote in her post.
As a long-time fan of this beloved star couple, I was both thrilled and saddened by their latest announcement. Their heartwarming last post, with the two of them gazing deeply into each other’s eyes, took me back to the many moments I’ve spent watching their romantic on-screen chemistry unfold over the years. The accompanying screenshots from Deadline added a sense of excitement and anticipation as they shared news about their new project – the 2022 film “Spin Me Round.” It is always fascinating to witness the evolution of an actor’s career, and I eagerly await their next chapter together on the big screen. However, it is bittersweet knowing that with each new assignment, there are fewer opportunities for us fans to see them grace our screens as a couple – a reminder of the fleeting nature of fame and the passage of time in our lives.
In my own words, I find it a solemn duty to share that I am cherished by my beloved wife, my dear mother Barbara Stern, my esteemed stepfather Roger Stern, my caring stepmother Michele Baena, my valued brother Brad Baena, and my loving step-siblings Bianca Gabay and Jed Fluxman. These individuals form the tapestry of my life’s support system.
