Aubrey Plaza was scheduled to present at the 2025 Golden Globes ahead of husband Jeff Baena's death

As a dedicated follower of Hollywood and Aubrey Plaza’s career, it is heart-wrenching to learn about the sudden passing of her husband Jeff Baena. The news came just days before the 2025 Golden Globes where she was scheduled to present. While Plaza has not publicly commented on the matter yet, it seems unlikely that she will attend the event so close to her loss.

Baena, a talented director and writer, made significant contributions to the film industry, with his works such as Life After Beth, I Heart Huckabees, and The Little Hours being widely recognized. His sudden death at 47 has left a void in the Hollywood community, especially for his wife Aubrey Plaza who secretly married him in 2020.

The couple, known for their private nature, managed to maintain a strong bond despite the challenges of working and living together in the limelight. Their relationship was marked by extreme highs and complications, but they navigated it successfully for over a decade. The Covid-19 pandemic even strengthened their bond as they were forced to quarantine together, eventually tying the knot during the pandemic in their backyard.

It is essential to remember Baena’s contributions to the film industry and extend our deepest condolences to Aubrey Plaza and her family during this difficult time. The Hollywood community will miss his creativity and talent, and we hope that Plaza finds solace and strength as she grieves this significant loss.

At the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, it was planned for Aubrey Plaza to make a presentation; however, this was preceded by the unfortunate passing of her husband, Jeff Baena, at the age of 47 on Friday.

This past week, it was revealed that the actress, aged 40, is among a group of stars such as Andrew Garfield, Demi Moore, Gal Gadot, and Nicolas Cage, who will appear on stage during the upcoming event at this year’s 82nd edition of the award ceremony on Sunday.

It seems extremely rare for the Parks and Recreation actress to appear on stage or attend the Golden Globes, as they are scheduled only two days after the loss of her husband.

DailyMail.com has reached out to her representatives, but has not heard back.

Plaza has not publicly commented on the death of her husband.

In the previous year, the actress received her inaugural Golden Globe nomination in the category of Best Supporting Actress, for her work on a television limited series or movie. Her role was that of Harper Spiller in the show titled White Lotus.

On Friday, an assistant found Baena’s remains on the Los Feliz property they bought in 2022, prompting a response from law enforcement at 10:25 am, according to information shared with DailyMail.com by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Officials announced that a man around 47 years old was declared deceased, with no indication of transportation involved.

According to a report by DailyMail.com, the Los Angeles Police Department went to the 2100 block of Fern Dale Place due to a death investigation. Upon arrival, officers found a male who had died. It’s been confirmed that the director of The Life After Beth passed away at the scene.

As a lifestyle expert, I find myself deeply saddened by the recent developments, echoing the sentiments of Baena’s family who have requested privacy in their time of grief. Privacy becomes an essential sanctuary during such trying moments, allowing us to process our feelings and draw strength from within.

Following his graduation from New York University with a film major, Baena subsequently relocated to Los Angeles to kick-start his career in the movie industry.

He began his career by taking on entry-level roles under prominent filmmakers such as Robert Zemeckis and David O. Russell, eventually serving as a production assistant for the former and an assistant editor for the latter, helping him establish himself in the movie industry.

He is most recognized for his first directorial project, Life After Beth, as well as The Little Hours – films that featured Plaza in key roles.

Additionally, Baena contributed to the scriptwriting for the film “I Heart Huckabees,” which was recognized with a 2004 Gotham Award nomination in the Best Feature category.

Apart from that, he is known for penning “Life After Beth,” a movie debuted at Sundance in 2014. Interestingly enough, another one of his films, titled “Joshy,” also had its premiere at the same prestigious festival and was recognized with a nomination for the Grand Jury Prize.

The Miami native also worked on Horse Girl and Spin Me Round.

In terms of his TV projects, he both directed and served as an executive producer for the Showtime series titled “Cinema Toast.” Alongside his spouse, he shared the role of director for this production.

In 2020, he quietly tied the knot with the star of The White Lotus, nearly ten years following their first encounter. They managed to keep their romance mostly under wraps and away from the public eye.

In September 2024, she made an unusual comment concerning their marriage during an interview with Howard Stern.

On the radio show, she spoke about maintaining friendships and a relationship in her line of work.

When Stern proposed that it was more advantageous for her to be married to a filmmaker instead of an actor, the former Parks and Recreation star concurred with this idea.

She also spoke about how is ‘happy’ overall, in spite of Stern pushing back.

When Stern hinted that her role wasn’t delivering the joy she believed it would, she chuckled in response: “It can be quite solitary up here.

In the year 2021, she expressed warm feelings towards him when discussing their dual roles as both professional colleagues and personal companions.

On The Drew Barrymore Show, she discussed their sudden wedding that took place during the COVID-19 pandemic as well.

‘It’s so great, it’s so complicated,’ she told the talk show host and fellow actor.

‘It’s a rollercoaster of intense peaks and intricate difficulties. It’s incredibly challenging to manage, yet we’ve persevered for 11 years. We simply find a way to push through it all.’

Apart from discussing other topics, she mentioned that they exchanged vows while wearing homemade tie-dye pajamas amidst the pandemic, right there in their own backyard.

That same year, she also told People that the Covid-19 pandemic strengthened their relationship.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I found myself, much like many others, confined for extended periods during those challenging months. Yet, amidst the global turmoil, there were silver linings. On a personal and relational level, it was almost refreshing to be compelled to stay put for so long. It offered an opportunity to slow down, reconnect, and appreciate the simple pleasures of life.

Plaza recalled that they tied the knot spontaneously in front of an ‘altar of their love objects.’
