Aubrey Plaza previously revealed Jeff Baena got ‘death threats in his DMs’ after they got married
Aubrey Plaza mentioned that following their marriage, her partner Jeff Baena encountered threatening messages directed at him through private messages (DMs).
Since 2011, the duo had been a pair, and they spent three years as a married couple until he passed away at the age of 47 in January 2025.
Previously, the 40-year-old actress mentioned that certain devoted followers displayed uncomfortable responses upon hearing about her marriage to Baena in 2020.
She revealed details about some shocking and incorrect messages her husband got following their sudden decision to tie the knot.
Back in 2022, I shared with Cosmopolitan that unfortunate incidents of receiving death threats had occurred via Jeff’s private messages. This revelation was disheartening for many of my bisexual followers who were distressed to hear about his marital news.
She said, “Many people attribute a lot of meaning to marriage, but I wasn’t trying to make a grand statement or seek everyone’s approval with my decision.
Approximately a year ago, they confided that they had quietly gotten married to mark their 10-year dating milestone, having done so while under lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
In her interview with Ellen DeGeneres during December 2021, she shared the unique story behind their wedding.
‘A lot of things happened during COVID for me. Yes, we got married. Big deal,’ she said.

She also recounted how they wore matching tie-dye pajamas that Baena had made for them.
‘We were in the lockdown,’ she explained. ‘Things got a little crazy, especially in my house.
‘My husband got really into tie-dying and when I say tie-dying, I mean 50 shirts a day.’
After their spontaneous decision to get married, she recalled how they fast made it happen.
She reminisced about setting up a hastily made symbol of love in our backyard, consisting of mementos like stones representing our shared memories, smoke, and fire – items similar to those.
Later, a gentleman hailing from Alhambra appeared, sporting a tropical Hawaiian shirt and carrying a briefcase. Frankly, much of the incident remains unclear to me. However, I have reason to believe it was a legitimate matter.
DailyMail.com confirmed on Saturday that Baena died by suicide at the age of 47.
Plaza has not yet publicly addressed the death of her husband.

10:25 a.m. saw law enforcement arriving at the Los Feliz property, as reported by DailyMail.com following information from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
According to Deadline, Baena’s relatives shared their deep sorrow over the recent news and kindly requested seclusion as they navigate through this difficult period.
Baena and Plaza were last seen together on a hike this past summer, six months before his death.
In July 2024, they were seen enjoying a stroll together in Los Angeles’ Griffith Park.
Baena is mourned by his spouse, mother Barbara Stern (stepfather Roger Stern), his biological brother Brad Baena, as well as his step-siblings Bianca Gabay and Jed Fluxman, and his stepmother Michele Baena.
