Argentine indie studio Matajuegos has unveiled its critically acclaimed surrealist documentary game, “Atuel,” which is now playable on Android and PC devices. First introduced on Itch.io in September 2022, this game was co-developed with international documentary filmmakers, The 12.01 Project.

Explore beautiful landscapes and experience real-life stories

As a captivated viewer, I embark on an extraordinary journey with Atuel – a surrealistic documentary adventure. This immersive experience transports me through dreamscapes reminiscent of Argentina’s Cuyo Desert, offering a chance to traverse these fantastical environments. The magic lies in my ability to metamorphose into diverse creatures indigenous to this region’s rich ecosystem, making each moment an unforgettable exploration of the extraordinary landscapes and wildlife that define Atuel.

What makes this title special is its use of real-life testimonies. As you journey through the game, you’ll hear from locals and specialists, sharing about the region’s past, present, and future. It tells a better narrative about humanity’s connection to nature and the impact of climate change.

Experience a heartfelt adventure through nature and an ambient soundtrack

Now, I understand why it’s been highly acclaimed, because it truly lives up to the accolades. It carries a powerful message, but also caters beautifully to nature enthusiasts. It offers a tranquil, immersive audiovisual journey. The gameplay visuals evoke feelings similar to those in Ori and the Will of the Wisps.

To put it simply, the game is definitely worth giving a go. It delivers visually stunning, surrealist graphics that are grounded in real-world geography, includes genuine testimonies, boasts a calming ambient soundtrack composed by musicians Makunouchi Bento, offers an emotionally engaging half-hour gaming experience, and much more. I’m definitely going to check it out myself later on.

right now, you can get Atuel on both Android devices and personal computers. To grab a copy, head over to the Google Play Store. As of now, we don’t have any details regarding its release on iOS. Keep an eye out for future announcements!
