“Atmospheric” and “suspenseful” French thriller finds new UK streaming home

A suspenseful and fulfilling French-German thriller series has made its way to streaming platforms in the United Kingdom.

First unveiled in 2022, “The Forest of the Missing” can now be streamed on Amazon Prime Video by viewers residing in the United Kingdom.

The play, divided into four acts, unfolds in the vicinity of the Franco-German boundary, revealing a chilling discovery – twelve cadavers hidden in a burial pit within the dense woods of the Black Forest.

The deceased individuals, all males from France and Germany, were murdered across a span of three decades. The freshest discoveries imply that the perpetrator, if active, continues to operate in the current timeframe.

The situation is connected to the narrative of Camille Hartmann, the French judge (portrayed by Hélène de Fougerolles), who suffered from memory loss following a car crash.

The unearthing of the mass grave stirs recollections from Camille’s past, leading her to contact the authorities, eager to participate in the ensuing investigation.

The series’ cast is completed with Gregory Fitoussi playing policeman Erik Maes, a German investigator who works alongside Captain Franz Agerland, portrayed by Tchéky Karyo.

As a gaming enthusiast diving into the world of cinema, I must say that the haunting ambiance in this drama has left quite an impression on me. One viewer aptly put it: “This atmospheric thriller is top-notch, just like other French thrillers I’ve watched – it’s skillfully written and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

In simpler terms, they praised the acting, settings, visuals, and overall mood of the movie, noting that it had a good mix of characters although they felt more development could have been given for the length exceeding 3 hours. They found the ending to be fulfilling and the message it conveyed to be powerful.

Some spectators noted inconsistencies within the series, with one individual characterizing the storyline as “unrealistic” and “poorly constructed.

Despite initial expectations, it took only three hours spread across four episodes for me to become fully immersed, another viewer noted. I found myself captivated by the plot’s intricacies and delighted in both the sequences and landscapes presented.
