Athena's plane suffers a midair collision in 911 season 8, episode 2

As a seasoned gamer and avid fan of 911, I must say that the second episode of season 8 had me on the edge of my seat! The midair emergency on Keystone Air Flight 63 was a heart-stopping moment, and Athena’s quick thinking to call for help was nothing short of heroic.

In the eighth season’s second episode of 911, Athena faced an ordeal due to an unexpected midair emergency that placed her in command of the flight she was aboard. As we came to know the passengers on Keystone Air Flight 63, our hopes for their safety grew.

The second instalment of our three-episode season premiere delved into the aircraft crisis hinted at the closing moments of the first episode. A minor plane collided with ours, following a bee swarm incident, causing two leaks in the ceiling – one above the cockpit and another in economy class. Consequently, the pilot was forced out of the plane while the co-pilot was rendered unconscious due to the hole.

As I prepared to discuss the need for LAPD backup upon our arrival in LA with the pilots, I found myself in a unique position to seek assistance when the plane suddenly started plummeting. Swiftly, I dialed 911, connecting me with Josh and Maddie – two individuals taken aback by the unfolding situation.

How was Athena able to control the plane in 911 season 8, episode 2?

Ultimately, Athena successfully contacted Air Traffic Control, whom she recognized from the opening episode of season 5 titled “Panic”. In this instance, they switched roles, providing assistance to Athena rather than being the ones in need of aid.

When the 118 crew members realized the situation, they assigned the passengers to assist those who were hurt during the flight. This instance underscored the theme of the series – people lending a helping hand to those in distress. Remarkably, Athena successfully enlisted the aid of a boy named Jem, who had a passion for aviation due to his fondness for video games.

Indeed, having a pilot wasn’t a luxury for her; it was essential. Regrettably, neither the co-pilot nor anyone else could assist by the finale of the episode. Athena found herself alone, without any pilot to guide the landing and dealing with a worsening hole in the aircraft’s roof.

Honorable mentions:

  • The 118 had a dance party once Gerrard was taken to the hospital, which didn’t exactly help Buck, who didn’t know how to feel about the events that transpired.
  • There was a meet cute on the plane and an adorable older couple whose various ailments ended up saving the day…for now.
  • Dennis apparently knows the names of people involved in sex trafficking and we can see this arc being brought up further down the line as the season progresses.
  • Athena left Bobby a heartbreaking voicemail, which he listened to just as he found out about the emergency. Plus, Buck arriving to get him confirmed his wife was involved. Then they stole a firetruck together. Can anyone say throwback Thursday to the pilot episode?
  • We still have one more episode to go and Athena needs a pilot. Is a young boy landing the plane or is our speculation about a certain pilot, aka Tommy Kinard, correct?

In this installment, 911 once again delivered an exceptional performance, and we can’t wait to find out how they conclude their three-episode introductory arc, leading us into the remainder of the season!

Make sure to watch 911 on ABC Thursdays at 8/7c. You can catch up the next day on Hulu.
