ATHENA vs Mercedes Mone is the biggest women's feud for AEW

As a seasoned gamer of wrestling fandom, spanning over three decades, I have witnessed the ebb and flow of the wrestling world like a masterful symphony. The latest act in this grand saga is the captivating women’s division of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where talent abounds in every corner. However, two titans stand tall above the rest: ATHENA and Mercedes Mone.

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) boasts an abundance of skilled female performers throughout its roster, making it challenging to highlight everyone due to the risk of overlooking someone. Nevertheless, any discussion about top-tier talent within AEW should undoubtedly start with ATHENA and Mercedes Mone. They are not only outstanding within AEW but also rank among the elite in the wrestling industry. If Tony Khan truly caters to “the sickos,” then a feud between Mone and ATHENA is the women’s rivalry that should unfold.

On December 18, 2024, ATHENA celebrated her second year as the Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion, a journey that has been both surprising and thrilling. Not only have her matches been exceptional, but she’s also woven an engaging tale throughout her title reign. As a mesmerizing spectacle for Ring of Honor, it’s exhilarating to witness her main event match against Billie Starkz at Supercard of Honor. This is the era of the “Unyielding Champion.

However, there’s even more to anticipate. Mercedes Mone is currently at the peak of her career, riding a surge of momentum. She has been the AEW TBS Champion for 207 days and the NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion for 172 days. This performer, whose presence, name, and mere mention command attention, whether it be positive or negative, is definitely worth noticing.

Mone and Athena are the most prominent figures in AEW. Despite Mariah May and Toni Storm preparing for another significant confrontation for the AEW Women’s World Championship, neither of them possess the star power equivalent to Mone’s fame. Athena enjoys industry respect, evident in the way the business reacts to her reign as champion. She deserves a prominent position on the card, and that top spot should eventually be against Mone.

The event AEW All-In is scheduled for Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on July 12, 2025. Many spectators are advocating for Athena to be included in this lineup with a prominent role. Despite the fact that several male ROH champions consistently receive top billing on AEW shows and pay-per-views, Athena (currently also the Women’s Television Champion) is often excluded or relegated to pre-show events. Even amidst fan dissent regarding the booking decisions, Khan has decided to keep Athena within Ring of Honor, where she has excelled.

It’s indisputable that ATHENA deserves to be on the All-In card. Any argument suggesting otherwise is unacceptable. Given her status as the “Forever Champion,” she’s rapidly growing in popularity within wrestling. Arranging a match between her and Mercedes Mone at All-In, with this being the main event, would garner interest from both wrestling fans and media outlets. This is the contest that needs to occur, and Tony Khan should not provide the audience with any alternative.

If AEW fans are genuinely passionate about women’s wrestling, then it’s high time to initiate discussions for a match between Mercedes Mone and ATHENA at All-In. There’s no valid reason why this battle shouldn’t take place, as it’s exactly the kind of contest that could significantly boost the women’s division.
