ATHENA should have dropped the ROH Women’s Title to Queen Aminata
As a devoted fan of professional wrestling and a follower of Ring of Honor (ROH) for years, I can’t help but be impressed by the caliber of talent that lies within the ROH roster, particularly the women’s division. The recent Death Before Dishonor event was another testament to this, showcasing an exceptional match between Athena and Queen Aminata for the ROH Women’s World Title.
At the recent Ring of Honor: Death Before Dishonor event, the ROH performers, often overlooked yet exceptional talents, proved once again why they are valuable additions to AEW. In what could have been the headlining match, Athena managed to keep her ROH Women’s World Championship by defeating Queen Aminata. Nonetheless, it would have been a strategic decision to let Aminata claim victory and the title for the sake of her career growth within the ROH brand and Athena’s future plans in AEW.
I have had the privilege of witnessing Athena’s incredible reign as the ROH Women’s World Champion. This run has left me in awe, and while her talents were already well-known to many, it’s been truly remarkable to see her push the boundaries and reach new heights. With an impressive 596-day tenure at the top, she has solidified her place in wrestling history. It’s a shame that not enough people are acknowledging and celebrating this extraordinary achievement.
Despite deserving recognition, Athena remains sidelined from All Elite Wrestling’s primary roster. Her skills have been on display against wrestlers such as Toni Storm, Mariah May, Mercedes Mone, Britt Baker, and more. It’s puzzling why Tony Khan keeps her out of the limelight, seeming unable or unwilling to heed fan demands for her inclusion. The ROH Women’s Title she holds feels like a hindrance rather than an asset, restricting her growth and preventing her from pursuing larger opportunities. Removing the title might clear this obstacle and open doors to greater challenges.
Aminata, Queen of the ring, would make an exceptional successor to carry on a new tradition. Her compelling character traits and formidable in-ring abilities mark her as a potential champion. The crowd’s enthusiasm for her during her time on the independent circuit speaks volumes about her popularity. Since joining both AEW and Ring of Honor, she has consistently impressed fans with her performances. Among the ROH women’s roster, Aminata stands out as the only one who has been developed with such depth and strength, making her a strong contender to inherit Athena’s legacy.
An opportunity exists for a change in the Ring of Honor women’s division. Queen Aminata deservedly should have emerged victorious against Athena, paving the way for Athena to advance to All Elite Wrestling, her rightful destination. However, this transition may still be possible, contingent upon meticulous planning within the booking process to maintain excitement and continuity following their significant PPV encounter.
