As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when it comes to Atari and its rivals like Intellivision. The upcoming expansion for Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration titled ‘The First Console War’ is like a trip down memory lane for me, reminding me of the days when I would spend hours in front of my old Atari 2600, battling it out with friends on games like International Soccer and Astroblast.
Next week, I, as a gamer, am thrilled to learn that the Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is getting its second expansion! This means an additional nineteen games, all centered around Atari’s first significant console rival – Mattel’s Intellivision. Can’t wait to dive back in and explore these new titles!
Titled ‘The First Console War’, the upcoming DLC delves deeper into Atari’s rich archive, adding 19 classic games to its collection along with eight informative videos featuring interviews from M Network programmer Jane Terjung, video game historians Leonard Hermand and Mike Mika, among others.
Presenting an alternate account of the initial console rivalry between Atari and Intellivision, titled “The First Console War,” will feature not only the original game lineup but also rescued prototypes such as Tower of Mystery. Additionally, you’ll find unreleased rarities like M-Network’s Swordfight, Anteater, and other hidden gems. Bonus materials include vintage advertisements, historical records, and additional video content to round out the package.
