At least three killed in San Diego jet crash. What we know about the victims
On Thursday morning, at least three individuals on board an airplane en route to Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in San Diego tragically lost their lives upon impact as the plane collided with a residential area.
At approximately 3:45 a.m., shrouded by thick fog, the Federal Aviation Administration reported a Cessna 550 crash, with six individuals onboard. While the authorities have yet to identify the deceased, a representative from Sound Talent Group, a music agency based in San Diego, has confirmed that their company suffered the loss of three employees.
Among them was Dave Shapiro, the company’s co-founder. The other employees were not named.
A company’s statement expressed deep sorrow over the passing of our fellow founder. Our sympathies extend to their loved ones and all those affected by today’s unfortunate event. We kindly ask that everyone grants them the privacy they need during this difficult time.
Dave Shapiro, 42
In simpler terms, Shapiro’s online persona embodies the essence of an explorer. His Instagram profile reveals that he is a music representative, as well as a pilot for both airplanes and helicopters, a devoted husband, and a father to a dog. Additionally, he has retired from BASE jumping.
In 2018, Shapiro, one of Sound Talent Group’s co-founders, launched another venture called Velocity Aviation. This company provides scenic flight tours, not just in San Diego, but also in Homer, Alaska. Beyond tourism, Velocity Aviation also deals with aircraft leasing, consulting for sales, ferrying flights, and providing flight instruction, as stated on their official website.
In 2005, at the age of 22 and holding an executive position in the music industry, Shapiro embarked on his initial flight class. This experience sparked a profound fascination within him for everything related to aviation, as stated on the site.
Shapiro also owned a restaurant, record label and a merchandise manufacturing business.
According to the Velocity Aviation website, Dave isn’t picky about the type of flying he does – whether it’s BASE jumping, aerobatic flying in helicopters or twin engines, or flight instruction. What matters most is being up in the sky. With over 15 years of experience under his belt and countless hours logged, Dave has flown more than a million miles. He continues to expand his knowledge and skills, and shares his expertise with the aviation community through Velocity Aviation’s various services.
Instagram videos depict him skillfully executing loops and various aerial stunts as the captain of an aircraft. In the year 2020, he shared a picture of his pilot certifications to indicate that he had earned the title of Airline Transport Pilot.
If you’re not familiar with aviation, this license is above commercial. Despite having a career and no plans to switch, he expressed his desire to learn more and improve as a pilot. He recently passed the check ride and received his certificate, which he earned by taking the test in a Citation 525 series. This means he’s now qualified to fly CJ jets too. It’s been quite exciting!
For Shapiro, flying wasn’t just about business; it was also a significant part of a major life event – his wedding ceremony.
2016 saw Shapiro and his spouse embarking on a journey aboard a ski-equipped, vibrant red aircraft, to soar over Denali National Park in Alaska. Their wedding vows were exchanged on Kahiltna Glacier; the bride donned a dress adorned with golden sequins while the groom wore a dark suit and an Iron Maiden T-shirt.
In a heartfelt account shared online, Shapiro’s spouse described the exhilarating festivities, concluding with a heartfelt tribute to her spouse: “my handsome husband, thank you for gracing this world and I admire you immensely.
On Thursday, heartfelt messages of sympathy flooded social media following the passing of a prominent figure in the music industry. Known for his work as a band manager, promoter, and more across genres like American metalcore, pop-punk, and emo rock, he had made significant contributions to these musical landscapes.
For several years, Carson Slovak served as both my manager and agent, playing a significant role in my career as a producer and musician. On Facebook, he shared that this individual was not just a good person, but an inspiration to countless others. His impact on the music industry is legendary, and his generous heart touched many lives deeply. I’m currently feeling devastated and stunned by the news of his passing.
Bill D’Arcangelo, a talent manager at Mid Atlantic Management, expressed on Facebook that Shapiro was an “irreplaceable and unique pillar within the music industry.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
