At least one member of the Scream 6 core four is returning for Scream 7

As a die-hard “Scream” fan who’s been following this series since the early 90s, it’s fascinating to see how the story is unfolding, especially with the newcomers stepping into the shoes of old characters. The news about Mason Gooding reprising his role as Chad Meeks-Martin in “Scream 7” has me excited!

It seems that at least one actor who joined ‘Scream 5’ and ‘Scream 6’ is coming back for ‘Scream 7’. As per a recent report from Variety, Mason Gooding will once again play Chad Meeks-Martin in the next movie.

As Jasmin Savoy Brown’s twin brother, I’m Chad, the nephew and niece of the iconic Randy Meeks from the original Scream series. In the thrilling 2022 flick, Scream 5, I made my debut alongside my sister Mindy, introducing the captivating Carpenter sisters portrayed by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. Being friends with these two amazing ladies, we formed a tight-knit quartet that fans affectionately called the “core four.

Originally, Scream 7 was intended to wrap up the story of the main four survivors from the New York killings, focusing on Sam Carpenter (Barrera). However, plans changed when Barrera was let go by the production company, Spyglass Media Group, causing a shift in the movie’s direction.

In the upcoming “Scream 7”, it’s just Gooding who’s coming back from the original four main cast members. Ortega departed the production stealthily not long after Barrera was let go, allegedly because of scheduling issues.

According to some reports from São Paulo Comic Con, Savoy Brown may not be part of the upcoming Scream film series anymore. However, this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. A fan account claimed to have heard it at the convention, but I couldn’t find any footage supporting that claim. As a result, we don’t know for certain whether she will appear in Scream 7 or not.

It seems that Gooding maintains a positive relationship with Spyglass Media Group, even after his previous co-star’s termination, as he is cast in their upcoming genre-mixing romantic-comedy/slasher film titled “Heart Eyes,” which will feature Olivia Holt and is scheduled to debut in February 2025.

The news that Courtney Gooding is part of the Scream 7 lineup confirms several key details for the upcoming slasher movie, such as Neve Campbell’s reprisal of her role as Sidney Prescott. Actress Isabel May from 1883 has been cast as Sidney’s daughter, and the seventh film will also star Mckenna Grace (known for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), Asa Germann (from Gen V), and Sam Rechner (recognized from The Fabelmans) in yet-to-be-disclosed roles.

At some point, it appeared that Courteney Cox might reappear, but she hasn’t formally agreed to come back as Gale Weathers just yet.

Scream 7 is currently dated to release in theaters on February 27, 2026.
