Astrologer Natasha Weber aka AstroTash behind controversial star-gazing segment in 6pm TV news bulletin breaks her silence to defend the move
As an ardent follower of astrology and Natasha Weber, popularly known as AstroTash, I find her inclusion in Seven’s national news bulletin to be nothing short of exhilarating! After years of scouring through horoscopes in newspapers and magazines, it’s a delight to see this ancient wisdom being shared on a broader platform.
Astrologer finally speaks up about the commotion sparked by airing her horoscopes during the 6 pm evening news broadcast.
Natasha Weber, also known as AstroTash, has been providing horoscopes for display after the weather report on Seven News’ nationwide broadcast since the previous month.
While the move has been condemned by those who think it reduces the seriousness of the news bulletin, Weber said her ‘sun sign horoscopes and are meant to provide inspiration’.
In a climate that’s rather weighed down by an abundance of grim news, I thought it would be refreshing to inject some positivity and humor, I shared with the Herald Sun.
She clarified that certain viewers mistakenly believed she intended to push Melbourne anchor Peter Mitchell off the news desk and abandon hard-hitting journalism, but in fact, this was never her intention.
According to Weber, the ‘infographic presented quickly’ proved to be an effective method for showcasing the ‘ancient knowledge of astrology’.
Weber said sun signs, the type of astrology normally presented in newspapers and magazines, were only the ‘tip of the iceberg’ of the study of celestial bodies, their movement in the zodiac and influence on humanity.
Weber noted that many renowned thinkers such as Galileo, Plato, and Hippocrates practiced astrology in their time.
‘Astrology is a tool to help guide us to make the best decisions for ourselves.’
In the process of revitalizing Seven News, their prime-time program, they have added a humorous three-minute segment called “6.57 News,” which is hosted by comedian Mark Humphries.
Among Seven’s audience, both the humor section and astrology forecasts have elicited a highly polarized response, with some viewers claiming that the network is trivializing them and no longer prioritizing serious news reporting.
One viewer expressed their displeasure, stating, “Now, Channel 7 is airing a horoscope segment. What nonsense! It seems they prioritize anything but genuine news.”
Instead of just including horoscopes and comedy skits on Seven News, why not take it a step further? How about Denise Drysdale spinning a wheel to give out prizes as well?
As a seasoned lifestyle enthusiast, let me express that the idea of horoscopes isn’t something I foresee as being a lasting trend for me. To put it mildly, it feels more like a magazine feature, such as Woman’s Day or New Idea, rather than an integral part of my personal belief system.
‘Seven News treating the viewers as morons with horoscopes,’ another fumed.
“This decision is really going to sway us towards watching Seven News instead of the other channels like 9, 10, 2, or SBS. It’s incredibly frustrating to see these new people making such childish choices,” expressed one individual in frustration.
Previously established anchor on Seven News in Brisbane, Sharyn Ghidella, specifically mentioned the portion of her job when she was let go from the network, due to broader modifications being implemented there.
In a recent Facebook post, I penned down my thoughts, stating that I don’t prefer my nightly news accompanied by jokes or horoscopes. To put it plainly, it’s high time for me to move on.
However, some viewers defended the inclusion.
In their own words, they stated that astrology should be considered as scientific as meteorology and deserves the appropriate level of respect.
After her discussion about the impact of five supermoons on Channel Seven’s Morning Show in February, there was an increase in interest and followers for Weber’s horoscopes.
Her appearance was applauded by her almost 80,000 followers.
‘Absolutely fantastic and very insightful Natasha,’ one said.
‘You are shining new light into an old system,’ another wrote.
Each week, I delight in sharing my personal astrology insights with you all, offering simple guidance on how to tap into the cosmic energy through understanding and using your horoscope.
Besides her employment with the Seven network, Ms. Weber also contributes to astrology columns for Marie Claire Australia and MamaMia.
