Astraeus Clarke design studio from NYC has unveiled the mysterious interior of its debut showroom situated in New York City’s vibrant Chinatown district. The location at 114 Bowery is slated to open this month, with the grand opening marked by the Darning Collection – a unique lighting series featuring metal tubing that’s been stitched together.
2022 marked the launch of their business for Chelsie and Jacob Starley, a dynamic duo who met in college in Utah. They’ve quickly gained recognition for their unique, customizable handmade lighting fixtures. Their workshop combines their shared nostalgia for the western lifestyle with modern design elements, creating an intriguing blend of the past and present.

The main area in the showroom is designed as an elevated lounge that functions as a communal seating space, resembling a classic conversation pit. Overhead, a ceiling made of mirrors is decorated with hand-cut stars, symbolizing the vast open skies of the American West, while a unique chandelier by Lenox hangs, with a series of tiered globes falling gracefully.
Near the lounge area, there stands a wall made of luxurious mahogany, serving as a backdrop to an arrangement of antique items that showcases the studio’s love for traditional elements. In another part of the space, walls painted a deep wine color stretch from floor to ceiling. Shiny black floors run throughout, lending a sense of depth and mirroring the metallic furniture and lighting fixtures.
The desk chairs, bar’s backsplash, and especially the Darning lighting collection, all feature a lot of chrome, which contrasts nicely with the abundant warm tones and organic materials that fill the room. This new light range, consisting of a horizontal chandelier, vertical pendants, and sconces, is distinctive for its metal tubing design, resembling denim stitching and rough fabrics.
