The remarkable Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar is all set to make its initial appearance in North American competitions at the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring on March 15th. This race will be a significant milestone as it marks the car’s entrance into the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and also signifies a groundbreaking event being the first Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) to compete in IMSA’s top GTP category.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the Aston Martin THOR Team is steering the phenomenal Valkyrie. An elite crew of drivers will be at the helm: Roman De Angelis, who clinched the 2022 IMSA GTD championship, Ross Gunn, a seasoned GTD Pro race winner, and Alex Riberas, a veteran of both WEC and IMSA races. For the entire 2022 IMSA season, De Angelis and Gunn will man the #23 Valkyrie, while Riberas lends his expertise for the Sebring race and the season finale at Petit Le Mans.
Originating from the road-legal Valkyrie, this high-performance version is designed for competition, boasting a carbon-fiber frame and a 6.5L naturally aspirated V12 engine. Despite its potential of over 1,000 horsepower, IMSA’s hypercar restrictions limit its power to 680 hp. The grueling Sebring track will serve as the ultimate challenge for the Valkyrie, as Aston Martin makes a comeback to top-tier U.S. endurance racing since 2011.
