Astini calls out Team Liquid when discussing Dota 2 smurfing
Following the recent Dota 2 update, there’s been a wide range of views expressed, leading to a slight disagreement between Astini and Insania.
The recent update to Dota 2 has rekindled the discussion about Immortal Draft. Since patch 7.33, both professional gamers and high-tier Matchmaking Ranking (MMR) players find themselves divided over this topic. The new version has introduced a fresh concern, and as a result, the gaming community is once again divided.
This subject has sparked quite a bit of debate, with some online gaming professionals encountering minor disagreements over it, but fortunately, it seems like nothing more than a friendly dispute.
Insania questions Team Liquid’s involvement
Following the rollout of the patch, numerous individuals expressed their thoughts, worries, or accolades through social media platforms. One of the initial voices to emerge was Filipe “Astini” Astini, a long-standing Dota 2 coach who currently coaches PARIVISION. On X, he shared his views in Portuguese, primarily discussing the new restrictions on professional players’ match history and replays.
In the post, he lays out his perspective, prior to discussing the topic of “smurfing” in Dota 2 with regard to Team Liquid.
Additionally, it held in high regard individuals who were skilled at “smurfing”… just like Team Liquid. There, their abilities aren’t revealed during training.

In this post, Aydin “Insania” Sarkohl, Liquid’s Position 5 support, showed interest and posed a query regarding the comment. Swiftly addressing the situation to prevent potential issues or misunderstandings, Astini promptly responded.
Fortunately, it appeared that the situation resolved itself swiftly without any disputes arising just prior to the event, and the main subject of Immortal Draft remained under discussion throughout.
Astini continues to push his point
Astini elaborated on his viewpoint in a detailed 22-minute video, articulating why, in his perspective, this alteration is advantageous. He presents his arguments succinctly and convincingly, offering illustrative examples throughout.
Fundamentally, he concludes that modifying the patch will foster more creative play, as opposed to mechanically adhering to a metagame. Ultimately, even with modifications, a metagame will likely develop, and players may still overlook potentially powerful heroes.
Instead of skipping Astini’s video, it’s definitely worth your time as he lays out his perspectives and opinions. A key point he makes is that spectators will now find it crucial to watch tournaments, in order to learn from the professionals’ gameplay styles. This could potentially reinvigorate interest in Dota 2 events beyond The International.
It’s intriguing to find out if this situation holds true, given a series of major tournaments fast approaching. This weekend features FISSURE Universe Episode 4, followed by ESL One Raleigh 2025 commencing in April. Overall, there are compelling arguments on both sides of the Immortal Draft controversy, and players will remain divided in their views.
