Assassin’s Creed Shadows New Gameplay – 18 Minutes of Shinobi or Samurai: the Choice is Yours
Following some strategic pauses, the much-anticipated game “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” has now arrived on current generation consoles in March. Consequently, we were fortunate enough to secure a substantial five-hour play session with the most recent version, and have compiled an enjoyable 18-minute video showcasing fresh gameplay for your viewing pleasure.
In this story, we delve into the personalities of our principal characters: Yasuke, a robust samurai who thrives on direct confrontations with his adversaries; and Naoe, a nimble shinobi who prefers to operate from the shadows. Contrary to any potential misconceptions about the Assassin’s Creed series focusing solely on combat, it’s worth noting that, apart from the prologue, players were given the freedom to select their preferred character for gameplay. This choice, especially when it comes to the climax of a chapter, significantly alters the overall gaming experience.
In the year 1570 during Japan’s late Sengoku period, we find the game Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This title offers a variety of engaging aspects. Whether you’re sneaking up on targets in the darkness or engaging in intense battles against adversaries, there’s always something exciting to do. In addition, you can expand and manage your network of spies and allies, while enhancing your hideout as well. The main objective of Shadows, as explained by Creative Director Jonathan Dumont, is to provide players with a sense of independence, allowing them to approach missions and exploration in their preferred style. To make things more intriguing, the game features seasonal changes, extreme weather conditions, and even some destructible environments – it’s clear that Ubisoft has aimed to raise the stakes.
In terms of gameplay, you have the freedom to choose which character you control, and this decision significantly impacts your overall gaming experience. If you prefer a tactical approach with parrying and deflecting attacks, or engaging enemies directly as Yasuke, that’s an option. Alternatively, you can leverage the shadows by turning off lights with Naoe. Remember, each character possesses unique abilities; for example, Naoe has Eagle Vision and a grappling hook, while Yasuke boasts increased health and the ability to break through locked doors.
As a gamer, I mainly chose Naoe and it genuinely delivered a genuine Assassin’s Creed vibe. However, there were moments of awkward platforming here and there – something that’s almost expected in the Assassin’s Creed world. It was like a fusion of Assassin’s Creed, Tenchu, and Ghost of Tsushima, with a dash of Ghost of Tsushima’s style, though not quite as polished. But the black-and-white screen that appears when I pull off a special move is a thoughtful addition that I appreciate.
Regardless of your personal opinions, I encourage you to examine our gameplay. Form your own judgement based on that. Afterward, simply relax and anticipate the launch of ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’, scheduled for March 20th, on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms.
