Ashley Tisdale has spoken out on leaving her ‘toxic mom group‘.
Fans were surprised by the recent news, especially considering how often the 40-year-old High School Musical star spoke about her close group of celebrity friends – including Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor – who supported her after the birth of her daughter, Jupiter, in 2021. She had previously expressed how much she valued these connections.
Ashley, mother to a 16-month-old son named Emerson with her husband Christopher French, is part of a mom group started by her close friend and former child star, Hilary. The two have been enjoying vacations, baby classes, and playdates together with their children for the past four years.
Ashley recently wrote about ending her relationships with members of her mothers’ group, explaining that they made her feel excluded and unsupported after she had a baby.
Ashley French recently wrote an article for The Cut, expanding on a blog post from November 2025. While she doesn’t mention anyone specifically, fans have pointed out the article was published shortly after she stopped following Mandy and Hilary on Instagram, leading to speculation.
In her article, Ashley describes realizing she was being left out of events, and later seeing pictures of them on Instagram. This brought back a painful feeling from her past that she believed she had overcome.

I was home alone one night, after putting my daughter to bed, and started wondering if I was good enough. Suddenly, I felt like I was back in high school, confused and feeling like I’d done something wrong to be excluded.
She ended the friendship, explaining in a message that she’d texted the group after being excluded from another outing: “This feels like high school drama, and I’m not going to participate anymore.”
Just to clarify, I don’t think any of the mothers are bad people – perhaps with one exception. However, I believe our group’s interactions became unhealthy and negative, at least from my perspective.
Ashley used to be a key part of a well-known group of celebrity mothers. In 2022, she posted about a fun getaway with friends like Hilary and Meghan Trainor – the post has since been removed.
It was so wonderful to get away with my mom friends! I’m incredibly grateful for this amazing group of women who understand what it’s like to be a mom, and I really enjoyed our trip together.
She recently thanked her friends who are moms in January 2025 for their support during the Los Angeles wildfires.
She emphasized that people are still connecting with each other, especially giving a shout-out to a supportive mom group who helped her through both good and bad times.
Hilary, a mother of four, and Mandy, a mother of three, have been close friends for years – they met when their babies were around the same age.

Their close friendship was truly tested a year ago when wildfires destroyed Mandy’s home, and they ended up living together during the crisis.
They recently showed everyone their friendship is still thriving by sharing photos from a family outing last month to view Christmas lights.
I’m such a fan of both of them, and it’s so heartwarming to see how much their mom group means to them! Mandy actually shared with InStyle back in 2022 how she’s made ‘so many wonderful friends’ through it. She said they all got together just the other week for dinner, and they’re constantly doing baby classes together – it truly sounds like an amazing support system.
I’m really enjoying this experience and feel so lucky to have such amazing support from these women. We’re all navigating this stage of life together, and it’s great to have each other.
In December 2024, Hilary shared her thoughts on the friendship with People.com, saying they bonded over a shared love for their children, despite both being public figures as pop stars or on television.

We all started music class at my house when our kids were just babies. Now they’re older and we’re taking art and gymnastics classes together – we’ve become a group of moms who support each other.
You know, as a mom, I often think about my kids’ friendships and what the future holds. I sometimes wonder if their current friends will still be close when they’re older, and if having friends whose parents are well-known will ultimately be a positive thing for them. It’s something I definitely ponder as I watch them grow!
I’ve been following Ashley’s journey for a while now, and I really admire her strength. She’s decided to step away from the group, and she recently shared something on her blog that really resonated with me. She wrote about how precious time with the right people is – people who genuinely see and appreciate you, and actually want you around. It’s a powerful message, and I think she’s making the right choice for herself.
