Ashley James shares a gallery of snaps she DIDN’T want to post on Instagram at the time as she reveals she was unhappy with how she looked
As I delve deeper into the vibrant world of Ashley James, a woman who effortlessly blends reality TV stardom with unwavering body positivity, it’s hard not to be inspired by her journey. Her life experiences, marked by self-love and compassion, resonate deeply with me.
Ashley James posted a powerful message, initially hesitant to do so since she felt uncomfortable with her appearance in the photo when it was taken.
As a dedicated admirer, I was captivated by Ashley’s radiant beauty and infectious joy in those pictures, but little did I know, beneath that flawless facade, there were areas she found less than perfect. In an open heart-to-heart, the 37-year-old confided that she had painstakingly picked apart those very images due to her dissatisfaction with certain aspects of her body in them.
Ashley openly discussed her concerns about her large breasts, her side profile, and the paleness in the images she shared on Instagram on Tuesday.
During a appearance on This Morning, the guest posted multiple photos showcasing their vacation moments with partner Tommy Andrews and their kids, Ada and Alfie.
Accompanying a delightful photo of her and Ada, 17 months old, on a tropical shore, she captioned: ‘My breast seemed a bit out of place.’ (Or simply, ‘My breast appeared unusual.’)
Ashley posted a photo taken before she had her two kids, remarking that she finds it hard to recall not appreciating her body back then.
Reflecting deeply, I nearly decided against posting these images because I’ve always strived not to emphasize ‘imperfections,’ having spent a decade reshaping my mindset to speak compassionately towards myself and refrain from criticizing my body. I wish for others to never feel the need to compare their bodies with mine either. Instead, let us celebrate our unique beauty and strength.
It’s crucial to emphasize that we tend to be overly critical towards ourselves, scrutinizing ourselves in a way we wouldn’t do to others. This observation saddens me when I look at these photos because despite being in incredible places and creating fantastic memories, my mind seems to focus on my body or appearance rather than the experiences and moments themselves.
‘And often we look back and wonder why we didn’t like the photo. We think we look amazing.
Have you ever found yourself disliking every picture taken of you, only to appreciate them a fortnight later? It’s intriguing, isn’t it, understanding the psychology behind this peculiar behavior? Why does this happen?
While viewing photos from my breastfeeding journey, I find it challenging, particularly those highlighting the size of my chest. It’s not the adorable images of me nourishing my babies that I have trouble with, but rather the change in my body during that time. This discomfort is deeply rooted in years of self-consciousness and criticisms that began when I was only 14 years old.
Reflecting upon it now, I am grateful beyond words for the decision I made to preserve those moments captured in the photographs. Although at times they may not have reflected my ideal image or portrayed the perfect moment, they are priceless reminders of a life filled with the innocence and exuberance of my children’s childhood, the trials and triumphs of my own journey, and the rich tapestry of experiences that make up the beautiful mosaic that is life. Each image serves as a time capsule, transporting me back to those moments of love, laughter, and adventure, reminding me of the preciousness of every moment lived and cherished.
Time tends to blur our recollections, and it seems like our children grow up in the blink of an eye. In the end, all that’s left are photographs and cherished memories.
Show yourself kindness, regardless of the stage of life you’re at. Also, be mindful to extend compassion towards yourself for not appreciating what you see right away. After all, we’ve been conditioned in a world that encourages us to focus on flaws so that others can capitalize on our insecurities. Lastly, make sure to be in the photos whenever possible.
In one of my recent Instagram posts, I proudly displayed my ‘expanded’ midriff while emphasizing the significance of self-love and body acceptance. As a champion for positive body image, I believe it’s essential to embrace every part of ourselves, flaws and all.
She spoke about how her her figure has changed since welcoming her two children over the past few years and how she tries to ‘reframe’ negative thoughts.
Ashley raised her sweater to reveal her well-defined midriff, confessing that she prefers uplifting compliments over critical self-reflection instead.
As an ardent admirer, let me share a personal observation: Motherhood has left its indelible mark on my midriff. The evidence of those beautiful bundles of joy is etched deep within the skin of my belly. It appears as though this unique imprint will forever remain.
‘I always like to reframe negative thoughts and think, wow, belly – you made Alf and Ada.
‘How amazing are you! Look at how you’ve grown and changed.’
Ashley frequently posts about parenthood and recently added a picture of herself nursing Ada on her Instagram stories.
She wrote: ‘Slept on my chest all night. She never wants night-time cuddles. Little cold and teething.’
Ashley announced in a sweet Instagram post last March that she had given birth to a baby girl, Ada.
In January 2021, the television personality introduced Alfie into their lives, a little over a year since she started dating tech entrepreneur Tommy.
Ashley from Made In Chelsea was unattached for a span of six years until he found a partner in Tommy towards the end of 2019, having initially crossed paths ten years prior.
Approximately half a year had passed when the pair found out they were expecting their first child, as Tommy had relocated to Ashley’s residence in London during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
